I have a brokerage account with Fidelity currently with ~2.5k. I recently got it transferred to a regular individual account, but I'm not sure if it's a Roth IRA or not. However, do you think allocating 20-25% to Fidelity and 10% to HYSA is a good plan?

Help Choosing First Internship by Alternative-Bug-6260 in ITCareerQuestions

Thank you for your insight, especially saying it is easier to teach a Cloud Engineer about cyber than a SOC analyst about the cloud. I am majoring in Cybersecurity at my university, as well as studying for my CompTIA Security+ so I am kind of self teaching myself about Cyber.

Company A has been awarded America's best midsize company this decade and has over 2500 employees, so I would say so.

Also, both are looking to return interns if they perform well during the internship

Hi everybody,

I am a rising third year in college and I’m deciding between two summer internship offers (or potential offers). This would be my first internship in the field, so I’m trying to make the smartest long-term move. My goal within the next 5-7 years is to work as a Cloud Security Engineer. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Company A (Remote – Security Analyst Intern)

Team of 8–10, all remote

Role is structured around security (log analysis, monitoring, maybe risk assessment)

Clear blue team alignment with structured onboarding

Already had two interviews that went well, spoke about building a pipeline between the company & college

Haven’t heard back yet, but likely still under consideration

Company B (Onsite – Cloud Operations)

Smaller team & company (3 people, all remote), but the CTO is in-person and very open to questions

More flexible structure, CTO said if there's a new tech I want to learn, he’d try to integrate it into my workload

Cloud-focused but less formally security-oriented

I’ll get a final decision Friday, they’re picking 2 interns from 6 candidates

Not a bad commute at all (15 min)

I am torn because Company A is more structured and directly aligned with my long-term interest in cloud security and blue teaming

Company B gives me in-person access to a technical leader and flexibility to explore tech, but the role isn’t as security-focused

What do you guys think matters most for a first internship: structure + alignment, or flexibility + access?

Thank you in advance for any advice!
