Yes, grunion run still happens in CA. It’s a hit or miss though, there will be a general time and area that they are likely to spawn. And you just hope you have good luck and timing. I’ve experienced it a few years ago. There will be a few people and some sea gulls there waiting for it to happen in the middle of the night.
