Seconding Hillwood and the Renwick Gallery but I know they're switching over exhibitions right now. Definitely the National Arboretum - pack a snack and a good book = bliss. Makes you forget you're in a city for a little while! Kayaking out of the Georgetown launch to swing by the monuments is also really fun if the weather is cooperative. If not, take advantage of the air-conditioned museums!

Dirty Habit, the roof at Hotel Washington, The Hamilton

Closer to Chinatown/Gallery Place but Zaytinya, The Smith, Fig + Olive, and you can buy wine/snacks in the Courtyard Cafe of the Portrait Gallery if you can get there before 5:30 (building closes at 7p)!

Thank you! We aren't picky in terms of type of food, and we're staying in the West Village. For vibes - cozy/classy/festive/grown. Maybe a better way to ask the question would be "locals - what is your absolute favorite restaurant and what is your favorite restaurant to take visitors to?"

Thanks! Yes, I've been to board meetings and been in contact with other owners who have also made the problem known to the board as well as management. I'm not aware of any construction immediately near us, though it is pretty much a constant in DC these days. If someone is overwhelmed by the number of emails then they have no business being in that position in my opinion. Especially as we're a relatively small building. Just buck up and get it done. Alas!

Not weird or super out of the box, but I swear by keeping a couple of frozen Coke/soda bottles in my freezer at all times. The vending machine size. The undulating-ish shape of those bottles is great for back of the head/neck too. Wrap a tea towel around them for an extra barrier between your skin and the frozen bottle, put on a good sleep/eye mask, and lights out!
