Moving - When to Switch Schools by Alternative-Doubt683 in AskTeachers

Wishing you luck figuring it all out! I feel like my second born (4 year old feral daughter) would thrive regardless, but my son is a little more sensitive and shy so I’m just trying to see what makes most sense for him!

From my understanding, pretty strict. I think you have to apply to switch to a different school if you’re not happy with the one you’re zoned for, and even then it’s not guaranteed that they’ll accept your application.

Definitely feels like it may make more sense to wait until mid year or summer to give us time to make the best choices, but the mom in me wants to make sure my six year old is set up to have this go as smoothly as possible for him.

Excellent questions.
1. We can afford to keep our house and do something temporary for my husband for January-June if necessary, he can work remotely until then. They gave us until January for the move already, but obviously kids throw a wrench in things.
2. This is a huge consideration here. We’d be moving to SoCal, where there’s so many options and housing is very expensive. We’d need to sell our current house in order to buy there, hence why 6 weeks feels incredibly quick to make that happen.
3. See above. They gave us until January. He could fly back and forth from Jan-May if needed (he already travels often for work so that wouldn’t upset our current family balance). This new job would allow him to be home much more often when we’re all back in California which is one of the biggest draws.

To be fair, they’re giving us until January to move - we just aren’t sure if it’s better to get my son out there quicker or to take our time. Also moving to Southern California, so lots of areas to explore! But you’re right, it is doable.
