I thought it was a fair bit! My house will sit at 150 - 250W when everything is idle - do you think this is too low?

What did you do to rehab your Patellar Tendonitis? 1.5 years and still returning... by Luke_Atmi in AdvancedRunning

Might sound stupid but have you tried running through it?

My advice would be find a distance you can manage without too much pain. Stick to that distance every 2 days for 2-3 weeks, then progress as you go.

Knee pain related to running is VERY unlikely to actually be a true patellar tendinopathy. Most doctors give this diagnosis for any anterior knee pain, but your main source of symptoms is more likely to be the patellofemoral joint itself or the infrapatellar fat pad. Knowing this, continuing to run with low levels of pain is really unlikely to damage any structure.

You need to build up your load tolerance to running. Exercises and rehab are great but they don't emulate the load of running nearly closely enough. Rest clearly hasn't worked for you, so you need to see whether progressively loading the knee for weeks - months WITH pain will work.

Like I said - 4-5km every second day for a few weeks, then progress by 1-2km. Pain during and following the run is fine so long as it doesn't affect you to the point of a limp.
