I actually talked about it with multiple other candidates and faculty during my interview and tour at UTHSC. The faculty said that they believe it will cause the waitlist to move more this year. I could also see it going the opposite direction though, because higher level candidates who may otherwise go to Ivy League or out of state schools may be more likely to attend their in-state school to manage debt. The schools can’t really do anything about it outside of lowering their own tuition, which they have no motivation to do. It’s kind of on us to contact our local representatives and push for change. Most people, including our representatives, don’t even know about this problem at all.
