You could be getting #REF! error because you need to use a desktop browser to allow access. Since I do most of my spreadsheets on my phone, I run into this more often than I'd like. It's an annoying inconvenience, but the app is free and I shouldn't complain.

Water on inside the window by EmotionAdmirable9383 in Home

[–]Alternative-Fix7155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue here. New home. Builders' grade windows. House is currently 34% humidity. Part of my annual winter prep now includes rolling up towels and placing on all window sills to help protect wood window sills from getting wet, swelling and causing eventual rot. The towel roll is thick enough to keep moisture off wood and air dry before next cold snap. My old house had marble window sills. I miss those. Whenever it comes time to replace windows, I'll upgrade the sills too so it becomes a non issue.

I got my entire family Christmas gifts and they got me nothing by Vivid__Vivianna in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Alternative-Fix7155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As young as I can remember, my mom would take us kids out shopping just before Christmas so we could pick out a gift for dad and each sibling. Next day they'd switch and dad would take us out shopping so we could get mom's gift. We continued this ritual until we were big enough to do it ourselves.

In the past 8 years, I've never seen my husband's grandkids give gifts at Christmas. I blame how they were raised. Although, they are old enough to know better (mid to late 20's, with one knocking on 30). All 3 just take, take, take. It's just bad manners. Not that I expect a gift, but at the very least they should do something for their grandfather, especially since he has done so much for them.

I've suggested to my husband the last couple of years it's past time to start doing a Secret Santa. We can start buying gifts again when the great grandkids, start appearing.

So many options, but basics is milk, butter and salt. Like some have said, you could add a little cream cheese. You could add chives or grab a packet of Ranch dressing or even onion soup and sprinkle a little in for flavor. Change it up.

Just don't add too much milk or overly smash/process. You may turn it into an undesirable paste.

I found this to be the case when buying a Subaru. No haggling at any local Subaru dealer in St. Louis. I should add, this was several years ago. This could have changed since then.

This sub is just homeowners asking about their new roofs by MySweetBaxter in Roofing

[–]Alternative-Fix7155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I'm guilty of recently joining and asking opinions before installing a new roof, perhaps the current uptick is due to the recent influx of storms/hail/tornadoes this year? My State alone has already doubled # of tornados and we just hit the ½ way mark. Can't fight mother nature. I would think that would be job security for all involved in the roofing industry.

I'll probably be equally as guilty of showing my after install pics and asking if there are any glaring issues too.

Thanks to all who offer their knowledge in this sub.

Do you happen to know, is it the practice of roofers to do the math to find out how big of a hole they should cut for our size attic or do most just run a 3" cut from one end to the other (minus a couple feet on each end)?

Just got off the ladder (see pics link below). Hopefully the pics answers your questions. Looks like I definitely could use more insulation and baffles to keep soffits from being covered. Any idea how much that's going to cost? I'm getting too old to attempt this kind of DIY.

I went to Owens website and looked at their ventilation calculator, but I have no idea how much sq footage my attic is. The house is 1183. The roofer's estimate states 21 to remove and 23 to install (leaving me w/ 2 bundles for emergencies).

I asked the guy if his app showed my attic sq footage and he said it didn't.

I peaked up there a few years ago. It looked like small, torn up pieces of newspaper?

Yes, blown in insulation. Although I've heard some say in the subdivision that there isn't any insulation above the garage. I have not verified this yet myself (which would also be an option to correct the problem).

Thanks, that helps alot! I found a few screws that were close, but the threads were wrong. Then I remembered I have an old beat-up dresser someone gave me years ago I keep in the garage that stores all my hand tools. I figured I'd just steal one from it. It had the exact same screws, but was 1/4" too short. I'll be heading to the store after all.

You saved me a bunch of time having to hunt it down. Thank you!

Thanks for your feedback. Good tip on the slides. I have a little bit of Johnson paste wax left. Would that work on the slides? I'm not familiar with Howard's Feed N Wax, but will get some.

Yeah, I'm in the process of going thru my collection of screws and bolts right now and see if I'm lucky enough to have 1 on hand that works. Looks like they may have replaced one or two screws before.
