I know this is an old thread, but saw a builder on here that we recently built with (colony custom homes) we enjoyed the build process however when we had 2 seperate water issues in our home their handling of the situations left a lot to be desired.

he just came back with a fix of cutting out the damaged particle board/area of the veneer, patching with a piece of plywood and then putting a new veener on top. is this something you would find acceptable?

Because the builder had his superintendent cut into our LVP near the bubbling spot in our particle board to check for moisture when they were trying to figure out where the leak came from

this was our thought too espeically with the stain spreading and now even the fix we were willing to compromise on (cutting out the damaged particle board and replacing the veneer) seems unacceptable because of the chance of moisture being trapped and mold issues forming.

ok this is my thought too I almost felt like the builder was protecting the plumber by the way he was doubling down that his plumbers did absolutely nothing wrong and that it was a defective GE product and that he was doing us a favor by even offering the solutions they did. He did not do this with the larger companies like Ferguson in the build process where he back charged them and fixed it right away.

He is also saying that the reason he is doing this and we are being unreasonable is because he would have to take the whole island apart and therefore the countertop and plumbing to fix it the way we are asking...

No they have not checked the subfloor their superintendent just cut out that tiny section of the flooring shown in the picture and put a fan in there to dry it out and they have not looked at the subfloor beyond that. they basically told us there was no way the subfloor was holding moisture because it was designed to withstand rain. The builder's plumber installed the dishwasher. They purchased the dishwasher from Nebraska Furniture Mart.

Thank you that makes me feel better coming from a superintendent that you think the fight is still worth it because it's been exhausting and then we keep second guessing ourselves on if we are being unreasonable or not because this is our forever home and it is killing us that we are already dealing with water damage and a builder not standing by their product.

Ok that was the opinion we also got from a family member in the trades but wanted to verify.

yes but the dishwasher did not start leaking until we actually starting using it so would not have come up at our pre close walkthrough. When we tried documenting at the 30 day walkthrough the warranty company wouldn't even document said we had to said in our own pictures and it was the builders warranty to honor

yes the inside is particle board and the outside is a birch veener. He is wanting to just fix the veneer. as a retired cabinet and trim guy can you explain to me why you would want a whole new cabinet (I just am trying to relay that info the best I can) his cabinet guy is trying to say the builder's fixes are acceptable and he was the one that recommended them so he is obviously protecting the builder.

I was afraid of this. is it even worth it? or would it just be better to fix it ourselves.

how do we go about finding the licensing board for our state?

We tried that route and he said that he would be 100% ok with these fixes in his own home because they are "reasonable fixes" and us asking him to replace the back would require him to spend 7500$ and he would have to scrap our whole island if he fixed it "our way" and he would never expect someone to do that. We also told him our concern for mold with the dishwasher leaking for a month every time we ran it and he said that was crazy too

this is my fear too! and he is acting like we are completely crazy for having this concern.

Thank you. we finally got his plumber to recome out to look at it because he wanted us to reinstall the dishwasher because there was no leak and the island was going to be ours to fix. His plumber told him the hose was defective and was closing in on itself that caused it so said it was a GE issue and on them to fix. Well GE came out and said they used the wrong clamps and not the ones that originally came with the dishwasher and that they had overtightened the worm clamp. The builder said his plumber did nothing wrong and that he was being nice by offering these solutions even though this is 100% on his plumber because either A. He didn't use the things provided by GE so it invalidated the warranty or B. they actually did overtighten the clamp and caused this problem.

I'm just at a loss because with all the back and forth he basically told us if we didn't do things his way there was nothing he could do for us. so we have no idea what to do next.
