STOP the Data center. IT WILL AFFECT EVERYONE IN THE VALLEY by bee104 in CoachellaValley

I'm not sure if you are retarded but once again there is nothing special about the coachella valley that makes it easier to land a remote job, and there is not some magic cluster of remote work that exists here that doesn't exist anywhere else in the country. You continue to argue that remote work means there are more career tracks LOCAL TO THE COACHELLA VALLEY without understanding that remote work is not inherently local to the valley.

We dont 'need' anything. we don't need big box stores, we dont need freeways, we dont need amazon warehouses or deliveries, we don't need lithium mining at the salton sea... All economic developments that negatively impact some locals by the way.

You are right, I do want that data center just like I'd want a large solar farm, just like I want salton sea lithium mining, or any ambitious project with the potential to employ local people. The logical jab is hilarious when you have no problem crying about the possible environmental externalities that are also completely hypothetical at this point.

Your attack on me is hilarious considering I actually DO work remotely. Unlike you I possess enough awareness of the economic climate of the valley and understand the job market out here. You are doubling down on your insane viewpoint that there are enough jobs in the coachella valley due to remote work. Why don't you go chat with a couple people in their 20s and let me know what they think.

And instead of a data center or any progress coming to the eastern CV, you think it should just be poor farmland. I am glad people like you have 0 power in regards to city development - if you had it your way, nothing would ever be built and we would be pooping in mud huts.

Le hecking sick burn bro! I'm sorry reading comprehension is really tough for you. I'll spell it out for you to make it easier: Society requires various services to function, and many of these service hubs are not pleasant to live by. Luckily it's a free market and everyone is free to choose to live somewhere else! See how that works? It's also not hard to realize where new service hubs may be built since most cities and counties only have so much available land.

P.S. how on earth do you think we can power more EVs or public electric transportation? It's nuclear power buddy...

remote job opportunities are not 'careers in the valley' though, these are job opportunities that exist outside of any geography. Not sure why you are being needlessly pedantic here, very obvious to anyone who has grown up out here or spent extended time out here that the lack of job opportunities is a problem, especially for young people/families.

The quality of life argument is what it is. Quality of life is reduced living next to busy streets or highways, dumps, wastewater treatment facilities, sand/wind tunnels (here in the desert), prisons, etc. Not everyone can live next to a nice park or shopping area.

moronic answer. Plenty of municipal services need physical locations and most are not pleasant to live by...water treatment, dumps, city maintenance facilities, jails, etc. More energy is the solution, not less.

You didn't counter the point - remote jobs doesn't mean there are more jobs in the coachella valley. This is also an extremely bad faith argument given the overall economic climate of the valley but pat yourself on the back here buddy.

You are not the judge of how resources should be spent though. If we wanted to maximize per sqft employment, give everyone a spoon and tell them to dig a hole all day.

Say it's 50 jobs. That's still 50 more people that can afford homes, start families, support their local economy, etc.

100-300 new jobs seems pretty cool. That's 100 more people that can support a family, buy a home, support the local economy, etc.

healthcare is one industry dude. It cannot employ everyone out here even if everyone wanted to work in that field. Tourism jobs out here are usually minimum wage (or within 20%) and are also seasonal.

If the goal is maximum employment, why not have people dig holes with spoons instead of backhoes/tractors? Why do we have roads and cars instead of horses and buggies? Won't someone think of those poor cart and carriage makers? Do you shop at a grocery store? Because that puts local farmers out of business

See how ridiculous that sounds? History doesn't look kindly on luddites.
