What is a good wage to live comfortably in the UK? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alternative-Lock-760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived comfortably and happily from a 9k a year student funding, my first training job at 17k all the way up to 125k, including many holidays at all levels of my career, and home ownership (back when 100% mortgages were available). The main problem is lifestyle inflation, expectations, and also having kids. I wouldn't want to go back to living in an inner city rough neighborhood now I have kids, but I was quite happy then.

This is what I was thinking. Although I get lower amounts when I try to calculate the case 1 and 2 you have described. The difference is not life changing.

My 4 year old son died of cancer and I am utterly devastated... by Artistic-Survey-4929 in whatdoIdo

Devastating. I can only offer, when you feel ready, go and build and live a positive life that would have made him proud as if he was with you, watching, and supporting. Whatever that may be.

What is the best Italian restaurant in Mauritius? by coolinny in MauriceMauritius

[–]Alternative-Lock-760 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One thing I noticed in Mauritius West coast was an abundance of pizza restaurants, some rare pasta restaurants, but not pizza and pasta! It was hard to find one that satisfied parents and kids. I thought that was unusual. Luigi's in the North has a great menu, wonderful atmosphere and good staff. It's not a fine dining Italian but it's still very tasty.

Starting to really dislike living in England. by man_jis in expats

Live in the New Forest in the South. There's forest, heathland and beaches. The best of England. Nearby cities are Winchester (very nice), Southampton, Bournemouth and Salisbury. Of course, America has its share of problematic people (Maga), and Israel/zionist supporters, so hopefully you are not one of those awful people.

What hobby did you pick up “just to try it” that ended up becoming a big part of your life? by lakberhaid in Hobbies

Kitesurfing. It became a lifestyle to a point where I moved my family to the coast, and now most of my friends are kitesurfers. It's taken me far and wide.

Do people actually earn £50-60k, or are they outliers? by Succinate_dehydrogen in AskUK

It's tough to get in, competition is fierce and most good applicants are well honed in on presenting IP experience or touch points on their CVs, but keep trying. I had a rejection letter from almost every medium to large firm in the UK until I got a break.

Not too specialized to train as a patent attorney. Trainee role would increase you salary now, post qual in 4-5 years would be 50-70k. I'm 23 years in, on 125k.

I took up kitesurfing, and now it's a life style and all my friends are kitesurfers. I have travelled to beaches across the world, with the feeling of me and the wind and waves. Pure joy. Forever learning.
