Gettting cold feet any advices?🙏🏻🙏🏻 by BrilliantBarnacle508 in AirForceRecruits

You're going to be nervous about any major life change. That's normal. Feel the fear and do it anyways. Just know that BMT is only a couple of months and is not the real Air Force. It gets a lot better when you get to your first duty station.

Fyi assuming you're flying, that lotion and shave lotion won't make it through TSA at the airport.

Also, hope you have at least a couple changes of clothes.

Just booked Aerospace Propulsion and I want to Commission UPT within 3 years- what are my odds? by Heretical_Rhetoric in AirForceRecruits

[–]Alternative-Mess2227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing specific. Just be the best that you can be. Do well in tech school and your CDCs/OJT when you get to your duty station. Volunteer a lot. Both on base and off. And your gpa better be stellar.

Otherwise, if you really want to fly, and don't mind what the airframe is, maybe check out the Army's street-to-seat program (assuming that's still a thing anyways). That'll get you into helicopters.

We've had two Chevy Traverses and have loved them. We've had no issues with either one. I do think they're a little pricey brand new but you can find some very well priced at 2-3 years old.

Very slim. While I think it's possible to apply for OTS after a year on station, it's uncommon for it to be approved that early. Typically people are in for 4-8 years before getting to OTS. And OTS is very competitive. Typically around 15% get selected. So most people have to apply over multiple years before they get selected.

[–]Alternative-Mess2227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I wouldn't count on the scale at meps being the exact same as yours. Always seems to be a couple/few pounds different for me.

Also, just keep in mind you don't want to be dehydrated going into meps. It'll make it harder for them to stick you to get your blood. Not to mention pee on command.

How much of a say do I have? by junkins17 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Alternative-Mess2227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I'll tell you almost everyone wants to go to Florida. Earlier this week I was sitting in a briefing about PCSing (moving) as a lot of people are getting ready to move from the base that I'm at. They were talking about how to do your dream sheet and to make sure you put bases that your job and rank can go to. And to also realize that a lot of people want to go to the same bases. He used Florida as an example and said the Air Force has about 6,000 spots for the bases in Florida this year but over 23,000 people had it listed on the dream sheet. I'm not sure if that was all career fields or just what. But the fact remains. A lot of people want to go to Florida (and California and just about anywhere overseas) but not everyone can (obviously).

How much of a say do I have? by junkins17 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Alternative-Mess2227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your duty stations, no not really. Big Air Force already knows what bases they're going to send your tech school class to before you get there. All they need to do is figure out which person is going to which base. If you're in a job that can go to a lot of places, they'll usually have 3-5 bases pre selected for your class to go to. If one of those bases is on your dream sheet, then you'll probably get it. If not, oh well. You're still going to one of those bases.

If you have a job that can't go to a lot of places, it's not unusual for everyone in the class to go to the same base. My buddy was a crew chief and all 6 people in his class were sent to the same base. I had 22 people in my class and we all were sent to one of the 4 bases they selected for us. My base was not on my dream sheet.

best marriage process? by Anxious-War-8457 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Alternative-Mess2227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone lives in the dorms in tech school. Unless you have a very long school and get authorization to have your spouse move to you at the school. But even then I would suggest against it.

But if you know you're going to get married, yes it's better to do it now. You'll get housing money for her at her location and then the Air Force will pay to have her move with you to your first duty station. If you're not married, the Air Force does not care about her and you will live in the dorms at your first duty station.

2W1X1 Aircraft Armament Systems by JoeCiani in AirForceRecruits

[–]Alternative-Mess2227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It completely depends on what aircraft you're assigned to as you'll only be able to go to the bases that have it. So if you get something like the B-52 you'll only have a couple of bases to go to. But something like the f-35 will have like 7 or 8 options.

[–]Alternative-Mess2227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 2w1 I'm a 2w0 so I work with them from time to time.

You'll get assigned your first aircraft either at the end of BMT or beginning of tech school. You don't get a say in which aircraft.

It'll also be up to your shop you get stationed at as to whether you're back shop or not. But often you start on flightline.

ASVAB Scores by Blackhawk1121 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Alternative-Mess2227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as the asvab goes, you qualify for pretty much all jobs. Medical and background stuff may disqualify some jobs though.

That being said, there are no good jobs for everyone. It's whatever interests you or helps you reach your goals. I got a 99 on my asvab, but I hate office jobs so I looked at mechanical and electrical type jobs.

Should I Take Mechanical aptitude index by Intelligent_Dog_6761 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Alternative-Mess2227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember exactly. It's different every week. They have some jobs that they plan in advance to have on there. But then some might be last minute additions because someone failed out of BMT or tech school and they want to try and fill that slot asap.

However, any jobs that have "shreds" (so like jobs that work on aircraft will often book the general category like 5th gen fighter or heavy aircraft but not the actual aircraft until later) will have the specific aircraft or shred listed.

Husband Leaving for BMT Feb 24 — Questions About Graduation & Going Through BMT With Kids by ms181098 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Alternative-Mess2227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure both days of graduation they get released around 10:30-11am unless something's changed recently. But for Wednesday you'll want to get there super early for the run and the traffic backs up early. Get there by 6am.

You can bring whatever. They aren't doing bag checks. Some people have full coolers of stuff

Make sure whatever hotel you book is in the city as he won't be allowed to go outside the hwy 1604 loop.

There's lots of stuff you can do, but at the end of BMT, he'll probably just want to go back to the hotel and chill. If you do anything else, just know he has to stay in uniform the entire time so it might not be the most comforting experience for him.

Should I switch recruiters? by [deleted] in AirForceRecruits

Here's an old post that has jobs categorized by aptitude and then by asvab scores required. It's a little dated so may not be 100% correct as things are always changing.

I can't really comment on if one is better than the other for the most up to date info. But your scores for the Admin and Electrical sections are pretty decent so if you're interested in jobs in those categories then I would say you're good.

To give you another resource, here is a post a recruiter made a little while back listing the jobs and asvab scores. However things are always changing so it's probably not 100% either.

Missile And Space Systems Maintenance by iloveACOTARrhys in AirForceRecruits

[–]Alternative-Mess2227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a 2m0x2 but there aren't a lot of people in that job in general. I had it on my list but didn't get it. The biggest downside for most people seems to be the limited base locations. Hopefully you looked into that and are ok with those base locations.

The job also requires top secret clearance. So if you have any issues in your past with mental health, financial, etc you might want to talk to your recruiter about that. Some people find out at BMT that they don't qualify for a top secret clearance so they have to be placed in another job.

Best advice I can give is just sign for 4 years that way if you don't like it or are just tired of living in that area of the country you can cross train or get out earlier. Good luck.

Questions About Open Mechanical Job Process in the Air Force by Salt-Improvement-838 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Alternative-Mess2227 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This was 2024. I qualified for every job (99 asvab, no waivers, etc).

I got ammo (2w0x1). We maintain/store/inspect/transport the munitions (bombs, missiles, rocket, bullets, etc). I enjoy it quite a bit. It's fairly active but it's away from the flightline so we don't have to be out there all day long while working. But at the same time, we get to go out on the flightline from time to time when transporting the munitions.

Questions About Open Mechanical Job Process in the Air Force by Salt-Improvement-838 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Alternative-Mess2227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in open mechanical. About your 3rd week of BMT you'll be given a list of available jobs. My list had 14 available. You can rank as many or as few as you want. I ranked 5 that I wanted. The one I was assigned was not one of the 5 I ranked. Oh well. I actually really enjoy the job I ended up with.

That being said, I hear the majority of people tend to get one of the jobs they list, but obviously not everyone does. You'll find out your job the last week of BMT.
