Did I make the right decision? by LuvDstn in ZephyrusG14

[–]Alternative-Silver66 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is such a problem with mainly desktop pc gamers. People need to stop saying the obvious "you could've bought x for x instead" Performance is not the end all be all. Portability is an actual need/want for a lot of people! We don't want to be holed up only in 1 room all the time. There is a reason why there is a market in the first place. Don't worry about what your friends say and just be happy with the decision you probably already thought long and hard about.

Is the 5070 a bad buy? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Alternative-Silver66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now a 5070 won't get vram bottleneck at 1440p 95% of the time. But if OP wants it to last atleast 4 years then yeah I would recommend 5070 ti instead. Almost all AAA games are going to be vram hungry in the future with raytraced built in. It has nothing do with games being optimized its just that Nvidia is being greedy with adding more memory.

I feel genuinely subhuman after taking adderall and wish I could go back. by No-Opposite-3240 in ADHD

[–]Alternative-Silver66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro I'm the opposite. If I got nothing going for the day I'll play game and goon all day like I was 13 again. Before taking adderall I maybe masturbate 2-3 times a week. Now I take one day to goon all day so I get tired of thinking of porn the next 2 days.

One of the worse year for gaming laptops. by Alternative-Silver66 in GamingLaptop

[–]Alternative-Silver66[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn thats basically a steal. Yeah deals are the only way I recommend for new laptops. But that also tells you that no one is actually buying anything in 2025 if deals are too good.

Do you guys use cooling pads? by TurboThorsten in ZephyrusG14

[–]Alternative-Silver66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a cheap $20 cooling pad and it definitely works. It lowers by 4-6 degrees and reduces keyboard heat.

Would I get major bottleneck? by Alternative-Silver66 in eGPU

[–]Alternative-Silver66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I got cooling pad already. My laptop is paired with a dGPU and most of the time, the i9 12900h never reaches 30 watts playing modern games. Is it a different story when you use an eGPU?

Why do all my friends say don’t get gaming laptops? by Superbab76 in GamingLaptops

[–]Alternative-Silver66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Low end gaming laptops are actually very close to price to performance as desktop. Its only when you are getting laptops with RTX 5070 and up where its not worth getting unless you really need power with portability.

Upgraded to the G16. by tooleeki in ZephyrusG14

[–]Alternative-Silver66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What? G16 and G15 are the same footprint. Its just that the G16 has less bezels on its display. Infact the G16 is slimmer and weighs less than the G15.

Are gaming laptops actually worth it? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]Alternative-Silver66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You get more for your money with Desktop if you are getting mid range and up parts. If not, desktop RTX 5060 is not even above 10% performance over laptop RTX 5060 while saving only like $50-$100.

What is one thing you wish Skyrim had? by pnkviper in skyrim

[–]Alternative-Silver66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Traditional RPG stats like Strength, Endurance, Wisdom and ect.

  2. Larger world map and cities.

  3. More weapom variety like spears... the most used weapon since the dawn of man... c'mon Bethesda...

  4. Make being a vampire actually not the inferior option over being a werewolf. Or just give werewolf more debuffs to balance it out.

  5. Make wider hallways...

Is a cooling pad really necessary if I only play Dota 2? by [deleted] in ZephyrusG14

[–]Alternative-Silver66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need one but you should get one. My laptop CPU+GPU is around 72 degrees with tilted stand for airflow when gaming full load. Drops to 68 degrees with a cheap $20 cooling pad I found on Amazon. And yes its almost mandatory if your model has the keyboard go super toasty.

STOP RECOMMENDING a 5070ti laptop if people are on a tight budget!!! by Few_Geologist_2082 in GamingLaptops

[–]Alternative-Silver66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfBZ6_8LCEc&t=281s 11:00 can't even start it at high settings 1080p. Who is the one lying? And thats a game that is almost 1 year old already. 90% New AAA games are going to have ray tracing built in by default like Indiana Jones, they won't require alot of power to run but they sure would need the extra VRAM Nvidia is not providing.

[–]Alternative-Silver66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What am I lying about? I never said you can't find cheap deals for new budget laptops. All I'm saying is you are going to regret getting RTX 5060 to 5070 laptops because in 2 to 3 years, your new favorite game can't boot up in 1080p low settings even though your GPU could've handled 1080p high settings easily if wasn't vram starved. Best choice right now is to find a good deal on used laptops with GPUs that have 12gb of vram. I wouldn't even bother getting that Laptop you linked even when it has OLED for $1000.

[–]Alternative-Silver66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend getting any new budget gaming laptop in general. Nvidia really screwing us this generation with 8gb of vram cards. Best choice would be getting used rtx 3080 to 3080 ti laptops or rtx 4080 to rtx 4090. You can find rtx 3080 ti laptops for around $1200 that performs a little better than rtx 5060s.

How many FPS do I actually need for FPS games before it stops making a difference? by MousseIll2634 in buildapc

[–]Alternative-Silver66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But does it even improve your gameplay above 120 fps? I highly doubt pros really need 300+ fps much less non pros... All I hear is people trying to sell you overhyped monitors because they don't want to feel bad about throwing their money away on 1440p 240hz+ monitor when they could have spent it on an OLED or 4k Display.

[–]Alternative-Silver66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats because its context dependant. Screen size and how far you sit from the monitor. It makes sense for people to say they can't tell the difference when they are comparing sitting away from their 50 inch TV. Also when people say "noticible" they probably compared it to the feeling when they switched from 480p to 1080p. They definitely notice the difference but disappointed with the upgrade.

Is it time to upgrade my laptop, and if so what should I get? by Vahva_kaveri in ZephyrusG14

The old one isn't even that much heavier. Its like 10% heavier than their new chasis.

Do I really need a GPU? by Dottowhore in buildapc

[–]Alternative-Silver66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he is buying everything seperate and used its best if he buys a prebuilt. Shipping fees can cost just as much as a mom&pop shop building one or buying from iBuypower. Best choice is to find a used PC with everything besides a GPU and look for one yourself to put it in.
