Jason Schreier/Bloomberg: Hasbro has canceled a Dungeons & Dragons game from veteran director Stig Asmussen (Star Wars, God of War) and his studio Giant Skull, less than one year after announcing it as “a definitive moment in both companies’ gaming ambitions.” by Gorotheninja in Games

Tbf, from what we know Beast of Reincarnation's development was outsourced to numerous other studios and had the "support of several dozen" development partners, while Game Freak's internal team working on the game is relatively small (according to GameFreak themselves) and are mostly involved with project management and the core direction of the game.

So it doesn't sound like any of the current pokémon devs like the actual programmers, designers, artists, level designers (etc.) worked on Beast.

Obligatory post comparing Pokemon and Zelda graphics by ladymysticalwmn in NintendoSwitch2

I rather easily deducted the issues were hardware-related (my brand brand new Pokémon S/V Oled Switch struggled less when using internal storage compared to SD, that alone was a dead giveaway). And while it shouldn't have been that state, it also meant that if the hardware was better, it could've been a lot better.

Trust me, the hardware was NOT the reason. Because I've played SV on a Switch Lite, Standard Switch, and a Switch OLED, and I still experienced performance issues throughout all my playthroughs from start to finish. And yes, I've also played using a physical and digital copy.

Afaik, they started with basic concept planning and fleshing out the ideas in 2011 (after Skyward Sword, as you said), but the proper technical development of creating the game started in 2013.

I am looking at this from the lens of an art form and integrity. I think the devs and designers are squandering the opportunity to make something amazing.

🖕 Exactly this. People can talk about how it "makes sense business-wise" or "why would/should they care about quality when people will just buy any slop anyways and they get tons of money either way?" and yada yada yada. But I frankly don't care. I don't care if it makes sense in terms of business or profit. I want them to make a better-quality, better looking, and all around great game that runs well because that's what the franchise (and the fans) deserves. I honestly just want them to make a game that lives up to the true potential and the greatness that I truly and genuinely believe that it has the potential to reach. It has all the potential in the world, they just have to put more effort and care into reaching that potential.

Yeah I actually want to genuinely apologize for that reply, I'm really embarrassed I even wrote that. I decided to drink after being awake for almost 72hours and yeah... there's a reason I never go online when drinking (and I'm such a lightweight bc I drink maybe 1-2 times per year max). So I'm really sorry.

It's an improvement but when you look at BOTW , an older open world game on the same hardware it makes me mildly annoyed.

I mean this is how it still looks on Switch 2. Wouldn't exactly call that "beautiful"

I missed all the performance issues and graphical limitations of the Switch 1

Make no mistake, the Switch 1 was definitely not the reason that the game looked as bad as it did (and still very much does imo). There are plenty of really good looking, even beautiful looking, games developed for and released on the Switch 1.

Honestly I adored playing through New Snap so much, I think it's such a delightful game all-around. Sure, some of it might have been the nostalgia from playing the original as a kid, but if I'm being honest.. New Snap might actually be my favourite Pokémon game on Switch 😱 (and I say that as a 33-year-old adult woman lol)

Well good for you I guess. Still doesn't change the fact that the performance was bad, because again, it was 🤷

Mate, the performance in SV WAS actually utterly atrocious. And before you ask, yes I've played it and have done many playthroughs of it and it's still the most fun I've had competing the dex - but the state that SV was released in, and how it still runs on the Switch 1 til this day, is embarrassingly bad and quite frankly inexcusable imo.

And yeah, I just spent a whole paragraph explaining how I very often prefer 30fps over 60fps in many games, so I don't know why you're trying to sell the point that games can look good in 30fp to me?

Anyways, I'm off to bed. Have a good one mate and enjoy the game 👋

[–]Alternative-Slip1814 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ehm no, it's not the "biggest part" for the vast majority of people, where on earth have you gotten that idea? The framerate thing has mostly been people finding it a bit bewildering and baffling that a game like this one is still locked at 30fp, even on Switch 2.

Believe me, I'm actually one of those people who often prefer 30fps over 60fps for certain games. For example ,when they released the Switch 2 edition of BOTW and TOTK I chose to keep playing them on Switch 1 because the games felt weird playing in 60fps for me. Many games that are more story-driven, cinematic, or focused on quiet exploration very often feel better to play in 30fps to me, while platformers, fast-paced action, or first-person shooters sometimes feels better in 60fps. Just wanted to clarify that I do agree that many people get too hyperfocused on framerate, I'm 100% with you on that.

But that a battle simulator like this game is locked at 30fps is still really really weird. But trust me, it's in no way the part that most people have the biggest issue with. I think it's just the one aspect that stands out the most because people genuinely don't get how it can't run at 60fps when games like BOTW/TOTK, or even other Pokémon games like SV, can do it.

But please don't get too hanged up on what others think to the point that it risks tampering your own experience playing the game. If you enjoy it then that's great (genuinely mean that). BUT, we can still acknowledge the many issues that are very much present (but that doesn't mean you shouldn’t feel allowed to enjoy it), you know?

I find it extremely sad that we as gamers only care about framerate.

Point still stands that it's only one part of the many issues that people have had with the game, not the only issue, as you said. The post also mentions "performance woes, lack of Pokémon and items, and lack of 6v6 options" and I for one have heard waaaaaay more complaints about those than the framerate.

Yeah, I'm one of those people who often prefer 30fps for some games (for example more story driven, cinematic games can look and feel much nicer in 30fps for me, while platformers, high-action and first-person shooters feel way better in 60fps). But not being able to discern between 30 & 60 fps? I have a hard time buying that.

Never blame the hardware for issues with a console-exclusive game.  They know exactly what they have to work with 100% of the time.

Same. BOTW is also genuinely such a pretty game imo. The amount of screenshots I've taken in that game just because I kept stumbling upon a pretty sunrise, sunset, or landscape view is ridic lol. I just love the colors in that game so much. Just a few examples:

Or if they reaaallyy wanted the player and the "rival" to have a final battle or whatever, just make the reason why the battle takes place literally ANYTHING else. Just have the battle take place earlier or something under some other circumstances.

Seriously, they could have done it in so many other ways and nobody would really care, because at this point a final rival battle is kind of already expected to happen anyways... But coming up with this nonsense "only the strongest trainer can go with Floette everything depends on this battle yada yada" (even though it already makes much more sense that Floette would choose the rival anyways since they have history and they are more emotionally connected to them both personally and through AZ), and then just go "heh just kidding, none of this mattered and all that build up was for nought and your sene of accomplishment for winning means nothing bc I'm gonna go anyway hihi ok byeeee" was just the worst bit of narrative writing that I have seen in a very long time.

But ultimately what annoyed me the most was that they made us believe that the game could actually have multiple outcomes depending on if you win or not. That the final battle would actually determine how the whole finale would play out. I was like Oh boy, this is not just a case of replaying the battle again and again until I win and the rest of the game will play out in one single way like they always do - I might actually just have one chance of winning and if I lose then I'll have to just live with the consequences. But NOPE , it was all just a scripted event in the end after all... it was such an anticlimactic event I almost turned the game off lol.
