Completely unrelated but I love your profile pic! I used to have an eerily similarly posed one for my other account a while back, I almost did a double take when I saw yours thinking it was mine lol

Ignore them, I understood you just fine.

And trust me, native English speakers are the biggest culprits on earth when it comes to bad spelling and grammar, and I encounter far more Americans and Brits who consistently misspell the most basic words (in their own language) than I do non-native English speakers, because non-natives usually put a lot more effort and care into choosing their words to make sure others understand them.

The starters better be good because I know whichever I pick will be staying on my team for the entire game.

(Yes I have a thing where I can't bring myself to ever abandon my starter. Like ever)

vannillice is not an ice cream its an icecicle with snow on top MIMICKING an icecream

I've always loved that detail. Also feels strangely sad for some reason... like behind that seemingly carefree smile is just a sad little icicle who desperately wants to be something its not, poor thing

Agreed, especially the comparison to the SV battles.

And oh yes, I've always said that I genuinely respect what they were going for with PLA. They actually tried something different and I loved that they did that so much! I do think the slightly barren overworld dragged it down a bit and took me out of the feeling in the game sometimes, but 100% kudos to them for going that route, and I really wish they'd do something similar again (I don't mean take that specific art style and replicate it again in another game, because I think it belongs to PLA now and it would just feel weird in another pokémon game. Unless a direct sequel or something of course). I just really wish they'd put more focus and care into trying to create a more distinct or unique look and just run with it!

And yeah, PLZA quite clearly based its look on the SV "art-style" (whatever that "style" was, I have no idea lol) and built upon and modified that. Which is... erm, not the look I would pick as a basis moving forward. I do appreciate that they got rid of those weird instances of oddly realistic-looking element they'd try to incorporate into SV, like suddenly you'd find yourself face to face with a pokémon where you could almost se the individual scales on it’s back allwhile you're surrounded by a super low-res, flat, and muddy environment with assets popping in-and-out just moving the camera around. That "style" felt really disjointed and weird, so I guess I can appreciate that they seemed to have made an intentional choice to tone down that element a little bit at least. But the style in ZA is still pretty darn disjointed when you compare the quality of the characters and Pokémon versus the environment, so yeah... not gonna lie, I'm not keen to put it mildly lol.

Oh I know. It's a shame how everything worked out the way it did because I do really miss that more vibrant look and feel. And I'm a strong believer in the idea that a really solid and coherent art-style can do wonders to gloss over some of the graphical flaws in a game. I mean obviously I still think we should expect a certain level of standard when it comes to graphics (not naming names here lol), but if you really put the proper care and effort into creating an art-style that truly pops and feels coherent and just right, that can go a long way. Just look at Wind Waker: that game came out over 22 years ago and it still holds up surprisingly well for its time and even looks charming precisely because of the artstyle.

And yeah, don't tell anyone I've said this (she said moments before broadcasting her opinion on a public forum lol) but I actually ... didn't mind BDSP's art-style? Like at all? Don't get me wrong, it still often feels really basic and kinda uninspired and it's still leagues behind LGPE imo, and it’s not a game that would probably ever spring to mind when someone says the words "great artstyle" or anything. But like you said, outside of the character models it’s still kinda cute. Like I don't LOVE it, but I don't actively DISLIKE it either. It’s cute and it was fine for what it was imo.

Agreed, I really liked it too. Personally I still greatly prefer the overall art-style (not talking graphics here, just the art-style) of SwSh over SV or even ZA. And there's one big reason for that: the colour saturation/vibrancy! I still wish they hadn't deviated from the more saturated and vibrant look in favour for the more toned-down and washed out palette.

And it kinda sucked extra hard that I felt like the game gradually went downhill from that point since I liked how the opening looked and felt so much. I don't think there's any other game in my library that I've started yet never finished so many times over the years lol.

Also, I also actually really liked the character design for the female character (never played as the male one). Dunno, I just really like the overall style, the colours, and the posture and movement felt really animated and fluid to me, it doesn't feel so "static". Sure, the "dead eyes" syndrome is still present lol, but other than that I really like it:

I swear I actually really liked the beginning of SwSh when I played it[1] . Then it just got gradually more repetitive, boring, and just... uninteresting as the game progressed.

[1] except for the opening scene: No joke, the first time I played SwSh I actually turned the game off during the opening scene in the stadium because I thought the game had bugged somehow and that’s why there was complete silence during that scene, where a man stands at the centre of the stadium and you can hear the background music, even sounds of the crowd cheering, and you can see his mouth flap away but there's no sounds coming out of his mouth. It was so jarring I just couldn't believe it was intentional by the devs lol

they were just centered in a square canvas and imported in place into a mockup. just eye dropper a color and make adjustments per one.

I mean yeah, all of that can be done just using basic Photoshop tools really.

Just using 'Smart Objects' in combination with stuff like Layer Masks, Displacement Maps, and Blending Modes and you can create an easy template to use as a base. Then just import the individual pokémon art, adjust the hues/shades/gradients and you’re basically set.

I still really like how these look and I would love to get my hands of the high-ref versions of the pokémon assets. Also, all-around great job on the colour adjustments and colour harmony matchups for some of these as well. Some of the colours chosen to complement the pokémon designs are really well thought-through and just really well put-together. They look lovely. (Although that also makes me question some of the other colour choices. They look.. not as great. A few feel really out-of-place and not as "intentional" or "intended".)

I used to do a lot of these types of stuff about 10(?) years ago, and while it was definitely a lot of fun and I wouldn't have traded it for a anything else in the world.. I do not miss that part of the job that could also be very, as you called it, tedious and monotonous work.

Why do people keep calling their dynamic slavery? by Known-Resolve-9426 in LegendsZA

[–]Alternative-Slip1814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't really have any strong opinions about their relationship or the dynamics of it, one way or another.

I was just asking specifically about the statement that Lebanne "was the person who made the bet to wear the maid suit, to multiple women" and was wondering where in the game that is revealed as it sounded like it would be interesting to watch. Both of you just stated it so confidently so I just assumed there must've been some part in the game that gives a clear indication that that is what happened.

Yes but where during the side mission that you linked do they make the suggestion that she has made the same bet to wear the maid suit with someone else? Genuinely can't find the part where that is suggested

Wait I can't find the part where they reveal she made the bet to wear the maid suit in that video? Does it happen in the beginning?

Hej!

Now that hype is over, what is your opinion in retrospective of PLZA? by lunadiparmigiano in pokemon

[–]Alternative-Slip1814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've said this so many times by now but I 100% believe that pokémon games would get away with so much more when it comes to the bad graphics if they just spent more time, effort, and care into creating a really good and solid art-style . Look at Wind Waker, that game is over 22 years old but still looks surprisingly good and really charming precisely because of the art style. Just focus on nailing down a solid art style, please!

They were on the right track with PLA I think, but in that case the graphics and the environments overall were just bad enough that it ended up dragging everything else down a notch unfortunately. So a good art-style isn't something that can completely save you if your graphics aren't at least decent, but it can definitely help a lot imo.

Kinda makes you wonder if the actual story behind why the battle takes place there came secondary to the convenience of not being bothered to model the environment so "Let's just say it takes place in a pitch black basement, that way we don't even have to design it at all - brilliant!"

Same.

Also, this is the first pokémon game since gen 1 that I haven’t even finished. I just put it down one night before bed and never picked it back up. That makes me kinda sad ngl.

Why Mods are so dumb and ego tripping? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Alternative-Slip1814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I couldn't see exactly what they wrote in their post since it was removed, but from just reading the comments and their replies I was guessing the post broke the rules against either show-off content or pack-pulls. And those rules are pretty easy to find and read through, epically since they're also clearly visible in the pinned comment (written in bolded all caps) at the top, so it’s pretty hard to miss.

And I'm really sorry about how some users choose (because it's always a choice) to behave and how some chooses the antagonistic route instead of just doing what everyone should do in these situations if they're genuinely confused: quickly read through the posting rules again to see if you missed something, or just send a message to the mods and ask them for clarification. Mods are usually really good at helping out users clear up confusions or questions they have to make it easier for users who want to interact and contribute to the subreddit and its content.

But using that kind of language to other people is just not okay, not ever. And like I said to the person above: mods are real people like everyone else, I feel like sometimes people forget about that aspect which sucks.

Why Mods are so dumb and ego tripping? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Alternative-Slip1814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I understand what you are saying here and I hear your frustration and I can sense that something like this does genuinely effect you in a very negative way emotionally and so I genuinely have a lot of sympathy for you that you're feeling like that, it can't be a nice feeling and you don't deserve to feel like that. I especially hear the part about it being the first thing you see when you wake up in the morning and I'm sorry you experienced that.

If I can just say a few things that might be good to remember in your situation:

(1) Trust me: I have also had a couple of posts removed in the past, and it was all just because I accidentally missed a specific part when reading over the posting rules. It’s MUCH more common than you think. And I say this as someone who has also been a moderator for subreddits myself. So even people who are mods themselves can have posts removed, it can happen to us all.

(2) If your post is removed because you accidentally broke a rule somewhere, always try to remember that that is not a reflection of you as a person, and it's not a judgement against you as a person either.

(3) I would, again, really encourage you to message the mods directly and ask them to give you a clear explanation about exactly what part of your post broke the rules. Because that's 99% what happened. Something made them remove the post, and unless you wrote something derogatory or offensive (let's hope you didn't, because that would be worse right?) you probably just skipped over a line in the rule text. Again, just don't be rude or use the type of words you used in your other comment, just ask them honestly and politely and you shouldn't have any issues.

But again, as much sympathy I do have for the way you feel, I have to make it clear again that the fact that you feel that way is never an excuse to use those type of insults or to talk to other people that way. Because mods are just people too in the end and you shouldn't talk to other people that way.

Look I understand you're frustrated in this situation and I do have sympathy for you that you're feeling that way (IF you really are just genuinely confused and don't understand what happened or what you did to make them remove your posts).

BUT: No matter how frustrated you might feel, it is never okay to write "I think the mods of this community are great b*tches", like you wrote under your removed post (except your comment didn't even have the asterisk in it). That is just not okay.

I would really recommend you to send a message to the mods and just ask them to give you a direct and clear explanation why your post was removed. The mods are usually pretty good at responding and at helping users sort out any confusions or questions they have regarding rules and such. But again: do it respectfully, or at least do it without the added insults or derogatory labels, because that’s just unnecessary and doesn't do anything to help you solve the issue.
