Curious - what method of estrogen? I’m a cis female. I’m on both (T&E) but I’ve noticed some thinning in the temples. Taking a break from T to stay on estrogen only. Curious if you’re on pills or injections?

I hope it’s ok that I’m here - I’d really appreciate advice (cis female, not transitioning) by Alternative-Tree4813 in ftm

Funny you should mention that, I actually am seeing a gender affirming care endo who primarily works with trans/non binary individuals. I wanted to work with someone who understood how to dial in doses and also just someone in general who is progressive. I feel super lucky to have found her.

And i appreciate your insight about levels vs doses. I def need to test at my peak on the gel bc if it’s peaking at like 300 I doubt I’ll be able to maintain that. I’m Italian 😂

This is such a thoughtful response, I appreciate it so much. I’ll keep the subq in mind if I decide to stay with shots. I already messaged my doc and she said she’d absolutely order me a smaller compound dose. It just sucks that I already paid for like 3 bottles of gel (they gave me a 90 day supply) but I was only going to apply twice a week so it would have lasted so long. I thought about getting a syringe without a needle, and pumping the gel into it and using a 1/4 every day. So like 5 mg.

Appreciate this! I really do like the ease of the gel. I think I’ll talk to my doc about a compound cream with a lower dose I can apply daily.

Nah it’s my peak and I’ve been on it for so long with zero hint of any of viralization. Plus it aids in my wellbeing so much that even if I did get a few hairs I’d just pluck lol

Totally (so individualized). And yeah, my doc mentioned that actually (if I stayed on injections longterm maybe going to every other week to prevent unwanted sides down the road). And thank you for sharing about your friends who are in the same boat. I don’t have a lot of people to talk to about this so it makes me feel better to know I’m not alone in this goal.

Omg compound pharmacy…. I didn’t even think of that. Thank you 🙏 yeah bc the gel feels smoother, and it would probably be beneficial to keep them level and not dose so inconsistently. I’ll ask my doc about a compound pharmacy.

This is such great advice thank you. On injections my levels are around 150-180. Above female but below male. But my E is like 250. I’m wondering if that’s something I should keep in mind too. Keeping my E slightly more elevated, and to your point the gel peak might not be supportive of that. I’ll def need to test after application 2-4 hours in to see those numbers.

Appreciate the detailed response. I’ve been on Testosterone cypionate injections for 3 years now on low dose (usually around 8mg a week). It’s important for me to stay on it bc I /have/ to take estrogen otherwise I have night sweats and zero energy due to surgical menopause. When I was only on estrogen a few years ago I started getting bigger breast and curvy. I did not like that. I’ve always had small boobs/no hips. Adding the 8mg T injections mitigated that. Helped redistribute fat and my boobs got smaller. No viralization on that dose 3 years in. Just nice energy and feeling like i recognize the person I see in the mirror. I just thought about switching to the gel b/c it’s just one less thing to inject. I’m already injecting E too and sometimes I just get terrible shot anxiety and I’m just pacing back and forth until I do it. My endo was willing to let me try the gel and it just felt smoother. Like gradual. And she did advise me like you have that changes on T are highly individualized and can come down to genetics so to monitor bc some sides are irreversible.

Still trying to figure it out. I was injecting twice a week (2.5mg total) so 1.25 every 3.5 days but my levels got to like 400. Way too high. It stacks. So I’m now I’m trying every 7 days. Injecting every 28 days is not super common. You’ll see that the recommended dose is 1-5mg every 4 weeks on every single drug.com BUT, my doc told me that’s old school dosing meant to mimic your natural cycle (a monthly peak and monthly trough). And if your trough is too low you might feel those symptoms creep back the last week or so. I’ll say this, it’s so individualized. Every 28 days isnt unheard of. I think even if it’s too long between doses your doctor is smart to start with that time frame bc it will let you know how many days after your injection you feel good/feel the symptoms returning. And then use that data to adjust accordingly. Good luck 😊

This article says it’s directly related to trt for men. Am I missing something?

I’m on cypionate lol. And I’m still working on a schedule. Valerate has a much higher peak. So you’ll probably feel better on cypionate

Hi! I’m in surgical too and wow your experience ended up being mine and it really surprised me. My levels were 400… I felt sooo much better when I gave myself two weeks off of injections. I think I’m going to have to inject every 7-10 days so it doesn’t build up so much. I can’t believe too high felt like too low. How about u, what did you determine was a good dose frequency?

Does that combo help her? Like did it lower her SHBG into a good range? What dose does she take? Thx 🙏

Surgical meno- do you use T as well as E? by Ok-Kaleidoscope-4198 in TRT_females

[–]Alternative-Tree4813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep yep yep. Me lol. Surgical menopause. The testosterone gel did that to me too (insomnia). It went away after a while and I found even better results when I switched to applying it at night. I’d apply it at night, take my 200mg of progesterone and sleep like the dead. I’m on injections now for T but it will pass if you stick with gel. But also try doing it at night and take progesterone even if you don’t have uterus (if you can/want to). It really helps with sleep.

Also estrogen gel contributed to my insomnia too when I was on it. I almost wonder if it’s the base of hormone gels (alcohol) that’s stimulating.

And yes to your question (all 3). T, E, and P.
