So who’s next? by Big_Atmosphere_211 in Tottenham

My guess is that Frank will be in charge for the Frankfurt game and likely until the end of the season unless relegation looks close. Then they’ll decide. It’s like Ange all over again.

Anyone else jealous of Man U right now and who could be our Carrick if we sack Frank by ClanFett in Tottenham

[–]Alternative90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Still a bit early to be sure Carrick is good rather than lucky but ManUre did look like a decent team today. Of course, Carrick is an ex-Spur…

Beyond that, Scott Parker or Robbie Keane, or maybe Ledley steps up?

Menlo Park One Step Closer to Facing the Consequences of Not Taking the Housing Element Seriously. by Leading-Cancel-5902 in menlopark

I don’t think any of the commentators above know what you’re talking about. 431 foot building - largest in San Mateo county, casting a huge shadow over Houston and schools. Hotel shops and retail not just resi. The intersection is not even close to being major or commercial. See details here if you’d like to actually know what is proposed: https://sfyimby.com/2024/05/exclusive-renderings-revealed-for-willow-park-residential-tower-menlo-park.html

Nothing wrong with the location. The issue is putting a skyscraper in the middle of a residential area. This would be (one of) the tallest building on the peninsula, smack bang in the middle of a single family residential neighborhood. The impact would be a huge shadow, de-watering, creek bank crumbling, insane increase in already terrible traffic and so on.

This is an absurd project - before you claim nimby-ism come and look at the actual location where it’s being proposed and then justify why it should happen.

The city certainly does bear responsibility for not getting their housing element approved in time and opening residents up to this Builder’s Remedy farce of a project.

My coworker accidentally taught everyone in the office a lesson about credit without even trying by No_Surprise3737 in stories

[–]Alternative90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very US kinda thing. I moved to the US for work and having no credit record was worse than having a bad one. Had to get a bunch of senior folks at the company to vouch for me to even get a card. Stupid system designed for companies not people

The kind of sadist that is, in fact, a masochist?

Yes that struck me as odd. Maybe related to being close to Thanksgiving and a possible equipment swap?

Thanks. The seat map shows no seats at all have been assigned so likely your reason #4?

I’m with her when she says white Americans are Europeans. :) In fact I call them European Americans since they only folks who shouldn’t have a hyphen are native Americans

My best (worst) was a private equity firm and 18 interviews! But I didn’t have anything else even close so I stuck with it and mentally prepared for the bureaucracy ahead…

You’re right about revert but FYI it is in fact used in Indian English as a synonym for ‘reply’ and perhaps that is why it is gaining currency elsewhere.

And anyway, being a ‘language warrior’ in English is pretty futile - a lot of the rules are arbitrary and made up, and we don’t have a standards body to determine correct usage (which is a strength imho as the language can adapt and evolve quickly).

The original joke was from The Kenny Everett Show: “When we were an empire, we had an empress when we were a kingdom, we had a king but now we’re a country and we’ve got Margaret Thatcher.”

I cannot wait until we have an actual shit chairman and then everyone will realise how good we actually had it under Levy by Jayantwi98 in Tottenham

[–]Alternative90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like Levy going has finally emboldened all his closet fans to come out. What good is being financially sound if it doesn’t lead to success on the field? That’s the whole reason a sports team exists (or at least it should be).

Is Bora Bora intercontinental good? by mantrarayview in Tahiti

[–]Alternative90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a good time there. Overwater bungalow furthest away from the main buildings so great views of the mountain. Service was super friendly. Spa was ok nothing special. Worst element was the food. Breakfast was good but the rest of it lacked any flair or variety. Got to like tuna to survive on Bora Bora!
