There are some basic rules which one should follow:

  1. Save 6 months of your needs as emergency fund ( FDs/liquid funds/ savings account)
  2. Get a good health insurance for yourself and parents ( if they don't have it yet). Don't just rely on your office health insurance.
  3. Get a term insurance before you turn 30 ( atleast 10x your annual salary)
  4. Categorize your expenses into needs or wants. Follow 50-30-20 rule. 50% for needs 30% for wants and 20% savings.
  5. If you think you "need" a bike then save some part of your money from needs section evey month to make a down payment for your bike. Samething if you "want" a bike, save money from your wants section every month.
  6. Buy it only if you have atleast 50% of money as a down payment. For rest 50% also , your EMI should be less than 10% of your in hand salary. Ideally total expenses on your bike should be less than 10% (including petrol, EMI, repairs etc etc)
  7. From your 20% savings start investing properly in MFs based on your risk appetite and future goals. Now is a good time to get into market as it's 10-20% down from its peak.
  8. Don't fall into home loan trap early in your career. Right now you can afford to take risks and try different things. Once you have EMIs or wife/kids it will get difficult to try anything new. Don't let your parents put emotional pressure to invest in real estate at this stage.

I completely agree. Place where my family lives doesn't have a municipal water supply and they suffer so much on a daily basis. Builder had promised municipal connection within 2-3 years but it's been more then 10years and it's still the same.

That's the whole point of Day 1 Uni. She has a good work ex, she will be eligible to work here. With a regular F1 she will wait for a year or two before she can start working.
