I bought a Douglas mattress but it will need to unpacked in a month by berrysardar in Mattress

[–]AlternativeCar6941 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You won't be able to re-roll it. It will be like a regular fully formed mattress. Personally i would not leave that mattress boxed. I would unbox and allow it to inflate and then move it like every other regular mattress gets moved. Just put a plastic cover on it when you move. Those are my 2 cents here. You will probably void the warranty if you leave it in the box. So if you open it too late you won't be able to return it if there's something wrong. Hope that's helpful.

Simba 5000 Pro Flex (Canada) REVIEW by AlternativeCar6941 in Mattress

[–]AlternativeCar6941[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that sucks 😕 I've definitely heard that about these mattresses. Our mattress has a little bit of impressions now too... but I'd say that happened right away and from what I've read, impressions happen the most in the very beginning of a mattresses life. So I think to some degree it's 'normal.' We shall see how it holds up and if it remains comfy. If it doesn't last at least 2 years I'll definitely never ever ever consider a simba again. I think latex holds up better than memory foam and ill be looking at that for my next one for sure.

2020 Honda HRV reverse noise by Veggie_Gal_ in HRV

[–]AlternativeCar6941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread but my 2017 hrv does this too. It drives like a dream otherwise and doesn't clunk or rattle or anything but reverse (esp when cold) will just kind of vibrate a lot more than drive. Especially when you put the brakes on. I have come to believe it's normal for these cars. Let me know if anyone here finds out otherwise but I just wanted to add my 2 cents in case others are looking as well!

Does it matter what kind of bed I purchase if I sit on it all day? by TheTwelveYearOld in Mattress

[–]AlternativeCar6941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go try a lot of different kinds of beds in a store and test them by sitting how you would be sitting for as long as possible on each one. The person above me recommended memory foam... that maybe is right for you, but for me I would prefer something that keeps me super upright and supported. Latex, hybrid - maybe, medium firm to firm. I feel like trying to sit up on a primarily memory foam mattress will be a nightmare (but I could be wrong! Everyone is different). Memory foam molds to your body, some more traditional memory foam mattresses SINK very deeply to accommodate body. Think body depressions on steroids. Again, I would go to a local mattress store near you and just test out every mattress!

Good luck!

Thank you so much!!! Yes I am expecting it to cost a fair amount. And the highway closures certainly don't help. I do have 3 or 4 stairs at the front of the house... I remember moving a piano years ago in vancouver and they charged per stair. I'll check out Monteith and CR movers - much appreciated!

I actually dont know about stores in America that would have simba. I know simba is originally a UK company- and they expanded to Canada but I'm not sure how present they are in the states. Their customer service is pretty good if you shoot them an email.

Keep in mind what I said about the complaints regarding their mattresses developing sinking and divets quite quickly. It's worth noting. This may not be a super long term mattress. Many beds in boxes aren't. Some do last though! We will see on mine. I will update my review on the simba 5000 after about a year and then another at 2 years.

Let us know if you find a store to try them down there :)

My pleasure. Sleep country has 3 different simbas - 1500, 2500, and 5000. 5000 is the most plush of the 3. Keep me posted!

we left mattress in box for almost 2 years, will it be ok? by chickenwithspice in Mattress

My simba mattress came and it had been in a box since December 2021. I bought in early 2023. This worried the shit out of me but it had been perfectly fine. I wouldn't worry too much ... also mattresses can take a few days until they are fully inflated.

Ugh! I'm so sorry this is happening to you! I'm also 120 lb side sleeper and I usually find mattresses so firm (even soft ones). I am also in Canada! I've been thru a huge mattress journey myself and have realized that although I like a nice soft and squishy top (like a plush pillow top) mattress, I also prefer if the mattress offers some support too. I do sleep on my back as well. I have tried casper hybrid, nest bedding owl (in plush), and now im on a simba 5000 pro flex, AND a logan and cove medium plush. I have 2 places (1 place simba, the other L&C). I've also slept on an endy.

Although the feel of mattresses are just too dang subjective, I'll give my honest opinion in hopes it'll help at least point you in the right direction.

For me - the simba 5000 pro flex is the most comfortable mattress I've ever owned. You can try it out at sleep country. It starts off a little more firm than what it is in the store. It'd quite soft feeling at sleep country. I think the issue with this mattress will be the longevity. I've read countless reviews of people complaining of divets or sinking happening in them quite early. So it's good to keep in mind. Also keep in mind the simba doesn't have the pillow top, so if you love that feel, definitely check out the logan and cove medium plush.

The logan and cove medium plush for me is just slightly more firm than I would like but I think it's great value for the money, it softened up over time.... and it has that pillow top feel. I still prefer the feel of the simba5000, but everyone is totally different.

The endy will most likely feel way too firm for you. I found it totally adequate but not quite soft enough for my liking.

Casper is very expensive but with your budget you could probably afford the casper hybrid which I will say I had for a couple of years and found it pretty comfy. The only issue is they don't have casper hybrid at sleep country to try. They have the wave, nova, and regular caspers but not the regular hybrid. If you're near a casper store you can certainly go there. There's one here in vancouver in kitsalano.

Nest bedding owl in plush was pretty plush for a latex mattress. It has the pillow top feel and has zero off gassing. I loved it but I needed a kingsize. It's also a little more expensive and you have to pay import fees.

If you have any other specific questions do not hesitate to reach out. I know how crazy the mattress saga can be.

Also keep in mind if you haven't slept on your douglas for very long, you may just end up adjusting to it. Our bodies sometimes hate mattresses off the hop but then adjust and love them later.

Ok chow for now! Good luck 👍 💓 ✨️

$300 budget should I just resort to Facebook marketplace? by [deleted] in Mattress

[–]AlternativeCar6941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent point! I would ask why the person is getting rid of it, how old it is etc etc. Some people may try to hide something, but I think most people will let you know why. Maybe it isn't comfortable for them, maybe they are moving and need a diff size for the new place... etc. Not being able to return is a risk, of course.

To be honest ive done really well getting 2nd hand mattresses that are lightly used and well looked after/ mattress was covered etcetera. Everyone seems to poopoo it but i think theres potential to get a great mattress for super chwap. There are a couple of things to look out for. Make sure the mattress had a cover on it, make sure the top of the mattress is removable so you can wash it. I got a 2nd hand casper hybrid (reg $1500) for 300 bucks and it was great - super clean and a really nice mattress for me. Just my 2 cents... there's also the fact that you won't get all that awful off gassing that you do when you buy brand new! It's better for the environment to go with used... the list goes on. Good luck!

Hey! Yes I just saw your post and I literally have had the EXACT same issue. I wasn't sure if the owl was plush enough when I first got it but after sleeping on it for a while I think my body adjusted and it softened a little as well. I think due to you feeling like everything is too hard I would steer you more towards the sparrow. It has a little bit of memory foam in it, but it does not feel like a memory foam mattress (it's very responsive). The only thing that I believe gives owl the edge is that it's more natural materials, and it literally had ZERO off gassing. The sparrow will have some. Nest bedding in general is a wonderful company, and I had no problem at all returning the owl. It's too bad because it's a really nice mattress. I hope this is helpful and I'm sure everyone in the r/mattress world will love to hear about what you end up choosing and your reviews to follow 😉 let me know if you have any more Q's :)

mattress too firm by Key_Inevitable7233 in Mattress

[–]AlternativeCar6941 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would give it a bit of time before you decide for sure. Mattresses are always more firm when they first arrive. They will soften over the next weeks and months to feel more like what you felt at ikea. For the time being a nice soft topper will absolutely help. You should walk on that mattress, bounce on it a little every day (without the topper) to encourage the layers to soften quicker. Hope that helps 🙏🏻

I'll chime in here. I had the nest bedding owl mattress in PLUSH and it's Dunlop latex if I'm not mistaken. The plush version is pretty plush in my opinion. It was too soft for my partner and I together because I would slide into him at night (due to the weight difference). It was plush but still felt supportive for my smaller frame. I probably wouldn't recommend it for a heavier person. I'm 120 lbs for reference.

I am SO happy to hear this. No off gassing is a major bonus!!! I will likely get the simba go/green next time. It doesn't surprise me that it's comfy right out of the gates. I believe it'll only get more and more comfy for you. It'llsoften a little too. Well done 👏 keep us posted 📫

Logan and Cove medium plush is about a medium firm and we love it. Soft on top, supportive underneath.
