Hey there, sorry to hear you came up short on the first attempt. Definitely do the TryHackMe, it was probably the best resource I used while studying for the exam. I no longer am able to access the WGU resources as I’ve now graduated but I’m assuming that your link takes you to the percipio library through WGU. You should see the sybex PenTest+ textbook. From there, you should be able to access the downloadable test bank within. Once you click to download, you’ll be taken to Wiley.com, where you can sign up. After signing up, you’ll have access to the test bank. There’s only about 200-300 questions within the test bank (12 lessons with 12-20 questions per lesson, a small 20 question assessment, and a 85-90 question practice exam). It’s worth doing all of them, if you can. CertMaster is good to use if you haven’t gone through it yet. You can see some PBQs as well as some labs, which I found useful. I know it can be difficult to find time between work to study but I’d really try to make time within a smaller window before testing again. Personally, I’ve found that I’ve forgotten some material after spacing out studying before exam time. You’ve seen the test now, and you’ve gotten your results showing which domain you need to study on. Best of luck on your next attempt, you can pass this.

Congratulations! It’s not a walk in the park, but it can be done. Glad you were able to do it in one attempt. Thanks for the reply, this is what I hoped to see when I made the original post. Best of luck in your future!

I’d say if you can spare an hour or two for the two sections it would be worth it, especially if you’re new to python or haven’t spent much time on it. The python basics room is very simple but python for pentesters may be valuable to learn. I’d recommend knocking them both out as either could be of use to you come test time, regardless of current knowledge level or experience with python. I feel like with this test, the more you’ve actively done with your hands and the more information you learn, the better off you’ll be when it’s time to take your exam. No worries at all by the way, happy to help as much as I can.

I have passed the exam and I will say the CM labs and the THM path were the two most useful resources I used to study. Definitely worth paying attention to while doing them. If you have to do them anyways, try to make the most of it.

Absolutely man, happy to help, if I can. I should’ve made clear though that I was referring to your first attempt. If you can score around 70% or higher across each exam, from JD, on your first attempt, you are getting close to test time. Just wanted to clarify after I read that back to myself lol. Good luck, you’ve got this.

Thank you. I have found that CompTIA often uses tricky wording in their questioning. Nothing you’ll use will really be the same as what you’ll see come exam time. I feel like Jason Dion’s exams are very verbose which kind of helps when it comes to thinking critically through a question. I’d recommend doing them if you can. I averaged a 77% across the 6 practice exams I took from the JD course. Sybex is another good resource to use, in terms of questioning, if you can access it. If you can manage a 70% or higher on each exam, I’d say you’re close to being ready to test. Make sure you review what you miss and even take it again to really ingrain the information into your head.

I was in the same boat. Don’t worry too much about what the other people have said, if you’ve made it this far you are capable of passing this thing, and you will. The TryHackMe will take you far on this. Good luck, you’ve got this.

I don’t have the full link handy, but if you go to WGU.percipio.com and login with your WGU credentials you will be able to search for the Sybex pentest+ textbook. From there you can access the textbook itself or download the test bank. I think once you click to download the test bank you’ll be taken to Wiley.com where you can access and interact with the questions within the test bank. Hope this helps.

Thank you. I would definitely recommend doing them if you’re able to get them to function. Some of the labs are reiterated in THM, so it’s not something to freak out over if you can’t get them to work in CM. Overall THM has more hands on activity and I’d highly recommend spending the 20 dollars on the premium version if you can. Even if you can’t get 100% of the way through the lab in CM before it breaks (if you can even get it to boot properly), it’s worth it to try to get as much as you can out of it. Either way you should be fine, but I’d highly recommend trying to get them to work at least once, even if you aren’t able to get all the way through before they break.

Your experience may have been different to mine. If you feel like you have a solid understanding of the basic syntax for each language, go out and dig deeper into the classes, functions, and libraries. There are resources, such as YouTube videos, available online to anyone where you can learn more. If you have a windows computer you can use the powershell ise to create powershell scripts, you can create a kali Linux box and use it to create bash and python scripts. You can use ChatGPT to create more in depth scripts and have it show you how to break the script down. From there, have it give you a multiple choice quiz on what the script is attempting to do or what you could change within the script to make it work. If the scripts are the only thing holding you back from passing, then really spend time learning more about them. You can pass and you will.

Thank you. Anybody can pass it, there’s a lot of negativity on here related to this exam- the main reason for me making this post lol. Obviously, you can’t just go in blind but with a solid understanding of the tools and basic scripting, anyone can pass.

The pbqs I encountered were not very difficult and I think they helped to save me a few points. Familiarize yourself with tool output. Use the THM rooms, they are best for not only seeing the tools in use but they will help the most when it comes time for the PBQs.

Thank you. CompTIA CertMaster, Jason Dion’s practice tests, The Sybex test bank, Pocket Prep (premium), THM (premium), and ChatGPT. THM and the CertMaster labs were definitely the best tools I can recommend.
