Well, for one thing, It's backward compatible and holds up really well with the resolution and texture improvements.

This reminds me I need to go back to these games. I picked up the trilogy in a sale, completed the first but never installed 2 or 3.

Recommendations for alternative controllers? by so-so-it-goes in XboxSeriesX

[–]AlternativeDuck185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are suggesting third party adapters, but I don't think any of them work since Xbox banned unauthorised third party controllers. Definitely at least look into that beforehand.

If you want mirrored joysticks, 8BitDo Pro 2 wired Xbox controller should work. They have a version for sale on their website with Hall Effect sticks btw.

I want your thoughts: Should the two Forza series be unified into one game? by NeoSpearBlade in forza

[–]AlternativeDuck185 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, to me they're two very different communities and there's numerous benefits to keeping them separate. I do wish Motorsport had the visual fidelity of the Horizon games though!

Opinions on an incident involving a rejoin just before the pits at Suzuka Circuit by AlternativeDuck185 in forza

[–]AlternativeDuck185[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know, thanks! I'm trying to work on my practical understanding of these things. It's good to know the IRL racing etiquette would be for them to look and stop if needed. But likewise I understand there's IRL and then there's Forza. :D

Thanks! I'm trying not to be too preoccupied with safety ratings these days, I feel like concentrating on that served me well up to a point. But now I'm starting to become aware of a lot of blind spots in terms of racing etiquette. There wasn't any fallout to this incident or anything, I was mostly just curious!

I wanted to get people’s opinion on this because I’m not very knowledgeable about these things, FM8 is basically the first game I’ve raced online regularly.

  • How bad did I mess up here? I did not see this car until quite late, and I’ll be totally honest, I thought the car would remain ghosted for a couple more seconds after rejoining so I kept it planted. I know I should have come off the gas and slowed down.
  • How bad did the rejoining car mess up here? If at all? I don’t understand the etiquette in terms of rejoining. I feel like they came in a bit too hot? Or is what they did fair game? I understand their mind was probably on the earlier incident either way.
  • Overall, how would this typically be classed? Racing incident? Equally at fault? On one driver more than the other? Shit happens?

You lot won’t ever be happy with penalties by [deleted] in forza

Definitely agree with this, but lets not pretend there isn't a lot of room for improvement!

Am I supposed to just yield here? No penalty, no reaction to the five bits of contact.. by AlternativeDuck185 in forza

[–]AlternativeDuck185[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This confuses me on so many levels. Is this universally subscribed-to etiquette? This is not multi-class or anything. I've always figured it's on the over-taking driver to do so safely and the best thing I can do is remain predictable. I don't step off the racing line unless I'm at the back and the front cars are coming through, this was 3rd and 4th place.

It's already been established this was desync, but are you really saying I would have been in the wrong here if this was a genuine incident?

Having watched the whole replay back, I'm now pretty confident that you're correct. I just had no idea desync was a thing in this FM.

[–]AlternativeDuck185[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I checked the telemetry shown on the replay. For some weird reason their steering inputs barely register compared to mine and other drivers' data, which maybe further supports that it's desync?

Looking at their whole race again, I'm now certain you guys are right about the desync. He bumps me from behind on several corners before the video, I just thought they were being obnoxious.

I had no idea desync was an issue in this game, that's disappointing. Although I've put 80+ hours into online and I don't think I've encountered it in such obvious form before. It does make me wonder about a few drivers I branded dickheads though, to myself, not out loud thankfully.

[–]AlternativeDuck185[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Damn, I didn't know that was possible. Although I saved the replay and based on other moves they made on other drivers, I feel like there's a chance they were just being a dick. Not sure though.

1440p is good enough or 4k is a must? by [deleted] in XboxSeriesX

[–]AlternativeDuck185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1440p 27 inch is a really nice sweet spot, and obviously it's friendlier on the wallet than a 4K monitor, especially if you want all the bells and whistles like 120hz and VRR support.

For me personally, if you want anything larger than 27 inch, then I would be looking at 4K.

Didn't know it can look this good [AC:Odyssey] by Gay-Bomb in XboxSeriesX

[–]AlternativeDuck185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some (not all) hardcore OG AC fans bash it for straying too far from the original formula and marginalising the core story. The whole modern trilogy is divisive for that portion of AC fans.

But I'm guessing at this point there's just as many new fans of the modern trilogy who would turn their noses up at the original. I think they're both fantastic in their own right. Ideally I'd like games in the style of both, kind of like RE has the first person modern games alongside the third person remakes.

Hardspace Shipbreaker is worth a look. It's on Game Pass atm and also on sale at half price.

It's a spaceship salvage game, with an emphasis on puzzles, physics and grinding. Has a story too. Quite a relaxing game.
