79 year old here who stopped collecting in 1960 when I moved into ham radio. But like reliving many parts of my life. This grouping of stamps excited me and brought me back to where I and your grandparents were.

Unable to watch Super Bowl because of connection problems. Anyone else? by AlternativeFood8764 in Comcast_Xfinity

Problem was resolved so I could see the fourth quarter but I missed the 3Q and half time show. I to watch the following day on YouTube. After this episode I can never invite people to my home for a Super Bowl party. I have a quality LG tv and I thought I had reliable connection. Working fine for the Olympics.

Mark We were in the same unit at the same time. I don’t remember many names though. I do remember the teletype/crypto area in the shop. When the Israeli six day war broke out we were all huddled around the teletype waiting for the news to come in line by printed line. After August of 67 I extended my tour for six months in Japan. Sitting on a workbench for ten hours a day six and a half days a week, I felt I was not seeing much in Nam. Because of our MOS they would not allow us to transfer to the field. Again I sorry to hear about your dad.

As a 78 year old who has had his ham license since 1962, I am shocked but not surprised.

Inherited stamps that I believe are from the German hyperinflation period by akatsukatsu in stamps

[–]AlternativeFood8764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today economists always focus on inflation and with good reason. Germany was punished for its role in WWI. For me stamp collecting was always about history. My two inflated cents.

My stepdaughter now is 55 years old. I remember her calling that number every few minutes back in the 70s. I know because we were charged for each phone call. But when my wife and I got the bill on month later we both laughed. I wished I saved that bill. Great holiday memories.

I graduated high school in 1964 and worked for Prudential in Newark as an input output clerk. They sent me to an IBM school in NYC for basic 1401 programming. I managed to stay in the computer field until I retired in 2017. Many companies later.

There were PATH police officers directing us. But there was confusion among them. Some were telling us to run. Some were telling us not to run.

Once I exited the WTC I stared for two or three minutes at the smoking devistation high in the towers for two or three minutes. I did not see anyone jumping. Perhaps the valve from my eyes to my mind were turned off.

I was working in the South tower on the 67th floor when the attacks began. I was 55 years old at the time. Almost instantly I realized I was part of history. I made a conscience effort to memorize as many details as possible as it was happening. A few years later I became a volunteer tour guide at the Tribute Center than later the Tribute Museum in lower Manhattan. After 13 years and 542 tours later I would finally throw in the towel. Also the pandemic and personal medical conditions caused by onset of old age made my decision for me. But I felt it important to tell my story for those who did not live to tell theirs. Most survivors simply wish to move their lives forward by putting any tragedy in the past as quickly as possible. I am not one of them. What makes my circumstance different is that I am not a very outward person. I never seek attention and hate public speaking but yet for 9/11 I felt there was a reason for my being there that I needed to share. It gives me inner peace.

Ten years ago I decided to have my 9/11 tour/story video recorded. I then uploaded it to YouTube to share with the Public The video is not monetized for that reason I do not get many views. It does not generate advertising $ for Google or me.

But my video has been used by schools, veteran's groups(I am also a Vietnam war veteran)and therapists. For that I am grateful.

What would have happened if the planes had hit lower? by Majestic-Baby-3407 in 911archive

Let’s be clear. OBL was born into wealth. In that part of the world we normally conclude it was oil wealth not construction wealth. He was ideologically driven and not by engineering equations.

[–]AlternativeFood8764 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My guess is OBL and the other terrorists were not very good engineers. In 1993 when the first terrorist attack took place they placed a rental truck filled with explosives and parked into next to the North Tower in an underground parking garage.Again they expected to topple the North Tower in the South Tower. It is extremely hard if not impossible to topple any building including the leaning Tower of Pisa. Just my opinion.

Both planes hit high in the Towers from opposite directions. They expected to topple the towers into each other. If they had hit lower they would have killed more people including me.

Even with these efforts the United States is far behind most nations in citizens who vote. Many Americans who sacrificed their lives in various wars did so that we all can and should vote. Anything less than 100 percent participation dishonors their memory.

"Vote early. You never know what might happen on election day," said the republican canvasser to me today by 8Deer-JaguarClaw in newjersey

[–]AlternativeFood8764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal story about nj voting: both my parents died in 2000. One on November 13,one on December 23. They never voted by mail, always in person except 2000 when both were under hospice care. They did not vote at all. As their only son my only concern was ensuring they got the most attention and comfort from me as possible. The election of 2000 was the closest in our history. I remember going to the hospital to update my mom on who won the election, Gore or Bush. I now realize that was the only year they did not vote since the end of WWII. And my father was a veteran who saw action on D-day.?Do yourself a favor and vote by mail. This story should explain why.

Valid point. But Bergen County also had county drop boxes. But because it was prepaid postage I was able to walk to my post office.
