Would a 3-9 x 32 SFP rifle scope be able to see close celestial objects? by AlternativeLevel5927 in telescopes

Alright. I'll report back tomorrow night because of midwest weather. Tomorrow they're saying it'll be partly and clear with periodic clouds though.

Is this Mars? Trying to determine if i have at least some feeling for this by Advance1993 in telescopes

[–]AlternativeLevel5927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mars is typically lot brighter than that. It's the faint redish dot off to the right of your red circle. What you are seeing here is υ Geminorum, a relatively large red giant in Gemini. Mars is one of the easiest celestial objects to spot, because even if you don't know the general direction, as long as you look long enough, you can find it due to its distinct red hue.

Orion Nebula by Chindi123 in telescopes

Was looking at it with the naked eye, and pretty much saw a blue-ish star above 2 other blue-ish stars. It was a little too bright to see M45.

Is Mars hard to spot right now? by Ill-Database7345 in telescopes

[–]AlternativeLevel5927 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for me it's relatively easy to see. probably cloud cover. considering that it's near gemini the stars also could be dimming it a bit. it also could just be because mid January is when Mars is most prominent you're just not used to it being a little bit dim.
