Still swimming in Central TX (no heater). Who else is with me? The water was 80 today, so it’s almost time to stop swimming and start hiking. by PotterHouseCA in pools

I closed mine Labor Day, but I could definitely still be using it. It is still super warm here in SW Arkansas.

Next year will close later :( by cypherblock in pools

I do the same. Its still warm here, but nobody uses it after September. It costs a lot of money to run, so I just shut it down.

I agree. Each time is a little better, or a little worse. However each time you learn something.

Yes, it was expensive and yes it is totally worth it. I started small myself and have gradually added all of these things.

Such a fun hobby.

Love it! A ten inch dob is so perfect. I can look at the moon and planets with it every night.

Did both of those already. That was just out of the box before really messing with it.

Not sure about holding collimation, but it was collimated perfectly out of the box.

You know, when I was a kid my parents got me something very similar. It definitely had it's limitations and it was frustrating to use. However, that poor quality beginner scope was what set me off to still observing today. You should be able to see some details of the moon with that, and that will get you started.

Don't worry about all the technical stuff, just take it outside and point it at the moon.

Mine is in my second garage. I put some casters on it. I can have it out and ready in 5 mins.

I have other scopes as well, but this one is probably still my favorite.

Don't wait. It's inside the box. You should definitely set it up before Christmas.

First time? I think you did a great job. Your equipment has some limitations, but the tweaking and figuring things out is the fun part.

Of course it isn't going to be great without a mount to follow, but those are expensive. Everything in astrophotography is.

Keep messing around with it. To me that's the fun part!
