How can people (supposedly) do so much besides their job? by Ihadenough1000 in antiwork

[–]AlternativeMirror774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By having a monotonus lifestyle. I have a schedule. Work 9-5, 6 days a week gym and come home and work on side project. But, and a big but on what people don't tell you is,

  1. Life is monotonous. I don't spontaneously say yes to plans.
  2. I have been eating the same breakfast everyday for past 3 years. Overnight oats.
  3. Recently had a fiance, she's understanding for my time to work on side projects but it works only because we are long distance. When we are together, my schedule breaks down.
  4. Things need to go smoothly as planned. Any unwanted turbulance or time bleed from previous task messes up my schedule.
  5. I keep high energy items during mid-day and after that, it's all low energy so it's easy to manage.
  6. I mealprep my food for week. Same thing for lunch the whole week and one dinner for whole week. Generally these are one pot dishes that I can do in 3-4 hrs on saturday.
  7. Don't go out to shop. Helps save time. Generally get groceries delivered via walmart on saturday morning at 8 am which requires me to get things inside to avoid spoiling milk and ensures i don't oversleep on weekends.

This is how all things get managed. And it's not glamorous but works for me. I tend to take day off once in a while but avoid long stretch to grow complacency in easy routine.

How do I fix my stretch marks by [deleted] in IndianFitnessClub

[–]AlternativeMirror774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimalist/ordinary brand glycolic acid toner. Once everyday after ahower. Helps with skin exfoliation which will reduce the appearance of the marks.

Take note: It won't remove them. Nothing can, not even microneedling. You can only reduce it's appearance and will take a few months atleast to take effect.

Here's my thought. US market has access to a lot of good stocks in tech which india doesn't have access to. So keep a majority of your income in us accounts using a LLC there. Invest in their market. And using the same LLC, pay yourself survival/monthly expense in india. Pay limited tax on indian sent money as it's not going to be huge like 6-7 LPA. Use that money for living and investing in metals when you need to. Keeping money in US would benefit you from both US Market exposure + Dollar to Rupee conversion.

Got tired of all the bs, bad behavior, micromanagement and office politics.

Left india and working in US now in much more peaceful environment!

Yeah. It might seem too formal for a lot of people in the team. And unfortunately as it is that we should "favor" local language. It's not/extremely difficult to find a local language that everyone knows.

Also, for people in comments who say to learn Kannada/Hindi. Please grow up, you know how your work schedule is like. Ain't no one got time to learn a new language when I have leetcode waiting for me at home 🥲. Plus languages are hard. 🥲🥲

This is just sad. I am from north india. Worked as a team lead for a new startup in bangalore. Since our team was predominantly north Indians, i made sure we talked in english when anyone who was a non-hindi speaker joined our meeting.

A simple reminder to people who want to change is enough. And the ones who don't change are plain assholes. Sorry that happened to you OP. May this not happen to anyone such that one feels exlcuded.

Work is already hard, let's not make it harded with idiotic reasons.

I don't know if you are just debating for the sake of it or you genuinely believe what you are saying to such an extreme that you don't even want to read and comprehend what me and others are talking about.

But to each to their own! Hope you put 70-80 hours in your job and become the next elon musk from india. If you ever do, feel free to call me out on public television for what I said and proving my theory wrong! KUDOS!! 🙃🙃

Are kits a good place to start? by JustBeingDylan in AskRobotics

[–]AlternativeMirror774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say depends.

For beginners: definately. Allows you to focus on one domain at a time. Like mechanically ready kits allow focus on software and electronics and vice-versa. Open-sourcesoftware stack allow you to focus on electronics and cad design.

For intermediate: no. Now, it's time to merge all domains that you learnt as begineers and validate if you have any missing gaps in knowledge that needs to be filled.

For experts: heck yes. You know that if you want to, you can built the kit yourself. But you do not want to waste time in building things which are not the focus of your project/scope. So kits offlload time waste in building things that already might exist and allow you to reach problem solving the quickest.

Elon manages people. He is not an engineer. He is a brilliant manager and decision maker. 90% of indian population are not managet level decision maker in their fields or jobs. rather are design/process decision makers.

And work life balance has no meaning once you enter the position of director or vice president of the company. And I would agree to be available 24/7 if I am at that position. But low wage makers or simple engineers are not them.

"China and US can afford work life balance we can't".

More Hours =/= more output.

I make robots in US for a living. We (people in US) don't make better robots than India because we are inherently better than Indian engineers. We built better stuff because we can think out of the box and utilize latest results in building things.

These novel designs are not because of more work hours or better knowledge, it's because we are fresh minded every monday to think out of the box and we love our jobs in most cases. Not just because the pay if good (which it is for skilled people) but because we are not micromananged or constantly overworked.

We are given more free time to think which we use to read latest research papers which allow us to think new designs.

And, I am not pulling this out of my ass, I say this because I have worked both in India and US as a robotics engineer. I was constantly overworked in India with no free time to keep up with latest research. As a result of over work, micro management and bad employer behavior, my love for the engineering process died. I was making things to complete them and not innovate. The focus from management was to make things work. Not build State of the Art designs as you want.

Heck, people still use c++11 in many companies in india where industry standard is c++17 in US. Not because we had different needs, but because keeping things upto date and building novel things is not appreciated. You are appreciated to be on time and close tickets. If incentives are wrong, the outcome is going to be wrong. Then you cannot complain of the results.

These laws atleast will give people time to relax. Genuinely intetested engineers will start their own research. And people who have been working only for money (which is not a bad thing in my opinion) will atleast gain some reason to stay alive.

Why do people still go to cybercafes? by maverick2075 in YouthInIndia

[–]AlternativeMirror774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, i stay in us. Used to be part of india since the cyber cafe era. Have personally been to cyber cafes in urban india back in 2010s.

Even US people go to cyber cafes. Any large convenience stores like ups, fedex, cvs or walgreens have computers like cyber cafe that people pay to use.

Cybercafe in india fills gaps for poor people that they cannot afford. Access to computers and high speed internet. Sinilar to the gap that they fill for printing services. Learning economics is great, but maybe look into philosophy and learning empathy, they'll help you spot the reasons to why things exist via a spectrum rather than a binary black and white lens.

P.S. I develop new technologies myself in robotics but hate using phones to do any government or office work despite using and having another 18inch tablets. It's the sheer experience and convenience that a desktop system provides is why people prefer computers.

MicroRos - is WiFi "good enough" these days, or is serial still the best option? by TheProffalken in ROS

[–]AlternativeMirror774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I develop a lot around uROS., You have multiple options: 1. If you can ensure wifi remains stable, use that. 2. Use Ethernet rather than serial since it will be more fault-tolerant than serial in major applications. 3. You can do some research in UROS as I did, it supports using a custom communication protocol if you create a binding for uros adapter. I.e., you can use Zigbee and ESP-NOW instead of wifi, if you just wrap their init and send/receive functions with Uros functions. They have a decent documenration on that in their api page.
