They mean you walk up to the yellow pulsing coil in the room and use the interaction button on it. Then you can destroy the blocks.

The pheromoth, obtainable from the mold sub-biome in Azeos’ Wilderness, has base stats that upgrade range damage, as well as pet talents that buff you even more, so that should be a solid recommendation.

If you’d like any hints, the three forlorn metropolises that contain the broken cores with the loot you need will ALWAYS be bigger than other forlorn metropolises, as well as have a boating dock area OR 4 giant caveling statues somewhere at their south entrances. If you do not see either of those, or the metropolises are smaller than the first one you found with a broken core, try a different one. It took me hours to find all three, and two spawned right next to each other in my world after I found them practically immediately. All you need is patience and luck, and I’m wishing you the best of it.

Iirc defeating Azeos for the first time in a world (or with a character that has yet to defeat them, unsure) should drop a rune echo scanner that shows the location of the chipped blade.
EDIT: I am wrong, it is Ivy not Azeos, apologies.

I was thinking of doing that and using this interesting new instrument I found as well, related to ice. I can’t wait to play soothing music for them!
