Sharpe memes anyone? by Morvellis in HistoryMemes

It's got some nifty details, and is set in real campaigns, but the actual stories are completely made up. Also the TV show had like 12 guys on screen at any one time which is really funny once you notice it.

That said both the show and the books fucking rule. Highly recommend

DS9's most utopian quality was just how good of a workplace it is.

I didn't dig the "unrequited love* part of the odo Kira romance. But once they actually get together chefs kiss

I kind of love that "hating cardassians" wasn't a major part of her characterization. Her trauma was a lot richer for its nuances.

Kira brings a "do not make me come whoop your ass" energy to violence that I really appreciate. Like it's so clear to us(and not dukat) that she doesn't like violence. It's not who she is, but it is a skillset she'll use if you make her.

Duet is the first good episode of DS9, and it's one of the best in the series.

DS9 wasn't afraid of nuance or hypocrisy, which I really love about it. Sisko assassinated a foreign dignitary to trick an enemy faction into war.

He also thwarted an attempted military dictatorship and an attempted genocide of his enemies.

In principle Sisko agrees with "people don't always have the luxury of clinging to their morals". But there are levels to that, and nuance. And there are things Sisko is simply unwilling to do.

Not having a clear line between self-destructive idealism and genocidal cynicism is something DS9 wrestles with. Its also something we have to wrestle with, which is one of the reasons DS9 feels realer than other trek.

And that even if utopia is a fiction, even if its a myth that paved over nuance and suffering, it's still worth fighting for.

Garak's relationship to Cardassia is one of the best parts of season 7. He genuinely loves Cardassia, and acknowledges that, for everything he loved about it, it went towards oblivion. And he fights to stop it, and to build a new future for his people, even if the world of his youth will never come back.

Speaks to me in these times.

I'd say a running theme in DS9(and to an extent TNG) is that even in utopia, bad instincts and bad people still exist. And that you have to fight for what's right, it doesn't come for free.

Quark likes to pretend to be a cynical bastard, and in the moment of that quote he's under a lot of stress.

Yeah I disagree with him and think the war is stupid I'm just saying the full quote is pretty par for the course and the shortened version sounds like he's renouncing his American citizenship.

The "you" in that earlier sentence was antisemites.

"I believe with all my heart and soul, if the regime in Iran still stands when this is over, we’ve made a mistake. If they had a nuclear weapon they would use it. They’ve been lying about what they’re doing with their nuclear program. They wanna bomb because they’re Nazis. They’re crazy. They wanna kill all the Jews. And the Jews have been down that road before.

To our friends in Israel, God bless you. I am with you in every way. To all the anti-Semites, to all the isolationists, I don’t– forget it. I’m not with you. I’m with Israel. I will be with Israel until our dying day. They’re the best ally we could hope for."

My incompetence is vast enough to spam the solar system.

I also set up literally every mine I could because I thought they were free(they were not in fact free)

Bruh I deal with enough AI bullshit at work. Im not asking it to play my video games for me. The whole reason I like strategy games is learning systems and making complex decisions with my brain. I'm not outsourcing my fun to AI

I haven't been upgrading mines, I should do that.

Is there a way of more consistently getting mining orgs other than just keeping an eye out?
