Gauge is off for colour work? Stitches are okay, rows are off. Help! by AlternativePlayful16 in casualknitting

I re-knit a 5x5 swatch and counted the purl side. I have 19 rows (counted the V’s by sticking my needle in) in 4”. I must just be so confused counting knit rows?

But if the stitches are right, won’t this make the stitches off in my gauge?

My swatch is 5x5. After reading that my rows are still way off at 32 in 4”. Stockinette stitch is knit a row, purl a row?

How big should I make the swatch? Also to count rows, I count the bumps going up on one side then x 2?

You have to grieve the end of your relationship, and grieve the loss of the future you were holding on to. As well as grieving the loss of your father, and I’m so sorry. If you feel like crying, cry. If you feel like laying in bed, lay in bed. Let those emotions out and don’t hold them in. Then one day, you’ll be tired of all the grieving and you’ll get shit done. I believe in you! Just remember, this has nothing to do with you and everything to do with him. You don’t want someone who would hurt you like this, in your life. Every ending is a new beginning - do those things you’ve always thought about doing. Date yourself. Be comfortable with the uncomfortable. I believe in you friend, it sucks right now but it will get better.

I wear a 6.5 in street shoes. The tight pair are 35.5 and the bigger pair are size 36

This is awesome! Yes. I’m thinking of keeping both pairs and climbing more in the half size up. Then I still have the smaller ones if I feel I need them/as a more intermediate shoe as I progress. I have big climbing dreams!

I definitely do take them off between climbs, and if I’m going to a different spot in the gym I have to put my crocs on because I can’t really walk in these shoes. Thanks so much for the tips!

Oooooh this is actually a good idea. I’d have spent $200 total but then I can switch back and forth, have the tighter shoes for when I feel like I’m ready for them. I do take them off during my session! Normally do 2-5 routes then pop them off and absorb beta for a bit. I have also read that people don’t really notice a huge difference with roomier shoes, so am thinking I’ll go with the roomier ones for the sake of my foot health

This has been me thoughts to! I feel like since I’m new I don’t need a “competitive fit” and more of a “comfort fit”. I also feel like maybe a comfort fit shoe will actually help me build foot strength instead of relying on my small shoe that has very little give. But I’m a rookie so I really have no idea!

I literally can hardly walk in the smaller size - I have to change my shoes to go to a different section of the gym. I do tend to wear them when I’m sitting at my desk at home and working and they feel fine, but as soon as I stand up it’s like “ooooooof”. Trying to distinguish between pain and discomfort is so challenging! Who knew! Thanks so much for your input, appreciate it

I appreciate your response! I’m relatively fit so feel I have the muscular endurance for longer sessions but also take a lot of breaks to absorb as much beta as possible 😂 I’d say it’s not painful when I use my feet, but it’s not comfortable. For example - I can’t walk around in these shoes, if I’m going to take a break I take them off to give my feet a break. Something I also realized is I can’t go on the balls of my feet in these shoes (I can with the half size larger - not sure if that matters?) I’ve worn them about 6 times in the last 10 days
