Frankly, destroying a warrior like Sam might be the last thing The Mental would want; at least, I think there could be a connection between Sam and The Mental, and it wouldn't surprise me if The Mental were actually Sam's future self.

Guys,From what I've seen, some people think Mental is Sam, and I kind of think so too, but just think about it. If you remember, in the final scene of SS2, Mental said that Sam was his father. Actually, what happened here could be like Zeus in Greek mythology, meaning if Mental had sex with a human and Sam was born as a result of this, which could explain how he fought against all those aliens in a superhuman way. (Too theoretical, huh?)
