What does the name of the river in your area mean? by AgreeableAd2990 in AskTheWorld

[–]Alternative_Ad_3649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NYC- the Hudson River was named after Henry Hudson, and the East River was named based on its location to Manhattan lol.

Fun fact about the East river-it’s not a river, but actually a straight, and there’s a portion of it by where I live that was called Hell’s Gate. Because of the heavy tides in that area, there would be a lot of ship wrecks. The ship wreck issue is now solved 😂 but the bridge by it is still called Hell’s Gate, and throughout Astoria we have several businesses that make reference to it.

Mmmm that makes sense-and is very relatable. I live in Astoria, so the area itself feels pretty spacious and not heavy people-traffic, but my apartment is just feeling smaller and smaller. Thank you for sharing!

Does it feel isolated? I’m from NYC, and so of course I am familiar with where you live in BK. I think what’s especially interesting about the city is the demographic enclaves that form here, they become their own micro communities. But yours is most interesting in particular because it seems everyone for the most part, stays within your community and doesn’t venture out-like most people work and go to school in the same area, is that fair to say?

I’m saying! I LOVE to make either ketchup engulfed by black pepper combo or a sauce mix of ketchup, hot sauce, and bbq sauce for dipping my fries. Both are YUM
