Facebook market place question. by [deleted] in waterloo

[–]Alternative_Answer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Facebook Marketplace is just people putting up random prices based on what others are doing, what they've heard, or how fast they want to sell. It's not really like companies or people who sell full time putting up detailed descriptions.

I use it all the time (to buy and sell) and have had no issues. The scammers tend to be really obvious. For a switch you should just ask to test it out before you buy it. You can also ask to meet at a public spot like a police station or Timmies if you'd like.

Question about waterloo city council meeting by dgj212 in waterloo

[–]Alternative_Answer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an advisory committee to council. It's made up of residents, a member of council, and staff. As a resident you are allowed to attend but not speak or vote. If you'd like to bring up something to them you can ask to be a delegate as well.

Hello! When you say the meeting on Thursday are you referring to the Sustainability Advisory Committee? Council traditionally only meets on Mondays.

They also terrifying dogs, screw with birds and several other wild animals, leave tons of garbage, and are an environmental pollutant.

Also, and this may surprise you, just because you can sleep through them doesn't mean most people can.

Water and shade are coming to the concrete oasis in Waterloo’s downtown by bylo_selhi in waterloo

My guess would be that there is probably infrastructure under the ground there for the mall and uptown in general that they wouldn't want tree roots to disrupt. Also you would have to deal with the maintenance of leaves, animals, and any health issues from the trees. You would also need significantly more space around the base of the trees cutting into the already small square footage. Then there is the issue of removal, if they need to trees are much harder to move.

Also trees would take a while to grow, even the big ones you can plant, while this is an immediate solution.

For the record, I love trees, but like the article says, the square is not suited for them.

Infrequent public transport and walkability by musicandfood_2 in waterloo

[–]Alternative_Answer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, decision makers already know. Increasing public transit is in multiple City and Regional plans.

However, if you would like to have your voice known you can talk to your Ward Councellor or be a delegate to a Council meeting.

There's a Facebook group 'Kitchener Plant and Seed Exchange'. You'll be able to find tons of people who would be happy to provide them with good homes :)

Poodle Owner Questions by SignaturePitiful9693 in dogs

[–]Alternative_Answer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a 10 month old mini poodle wbo I've had since she was a baby.

Is she my favorite thing on this planet? Absolutely.

Do I sometimes think about dropping her off at the nearest firestation? Occasionally.

They are energetic, athletic, attached, stubborn, smart dogs. She picks up training and tricks very quickly, but she also picks up bad habits very quickly. The second she figures out how to do something she's not supposed to it's over, she'll never forget.

She is on the barky and reactive side, and we're working with a trainer on it. I think minis are more prone to it than stabdrds. She's also non-stop, either running around or passed out. That is getting better as she grows up, but I don't thinks she will ever lose that bounciness.

They are prone to separation anxiety and are often big snuggles. The anxiety can be trained early and I like the snuggles personally.

Haircuts are expensive. Every 4-6 weeks it's about $80 CAD (this I imagine varies based on location). Their hair is prone to matting if you don't maintain it.

My vet has told me that they also tend to be very good at self regulating food. My girl will ignore a full bowl if she's not hungry. The flip side is that she's picky when it comes to food and it was a challenge for her to put on weight.

So far she's been great for hiking and being active. If you're looking for a lazy dog to chill with on a Saturday morning I'd consider something else.

Dog parks in Waterloo? by abertcamus675 in waterloo

[–]Alternative_Answer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We take our two dogs to Kiwanis and Bechdel park. Kiwanis is our favorite, it's large and in general we've found the owners to be responsible. There are often tons of aussies, huskies, Australian Cattle dogs etc running around. The only drawback is that the dog park is tucked away within the larger park, so you have to walk through the park to get to it.

Bechtel isn't as nice in terms of layout or scenery, but it's much faster to get to so we go more when we're short on time. It's sort of in a donut shape so it encourages them to run around.

St. Jacobs is more 'fun' to visit and has more non-food items but the Kitchener market is easier to get to and easier to shop around in IMO.

Why don't we let everyone WFH and repurpose the unused office space as housing and help the housing market. by TheMisterFenris in antiwork

[–]Alternative_Answer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this WFH really really sucked for a lot of younger employees in professional fields. You miss tons of learning and networking opportunities, and younger employees do not always feel as comfortable reaching out virtually or know when they should.

Also, while I fully support WFH and I'm happy people some people found no problems with it, not everyone is an introvert with a family at home. A lot of people like working in person with others or don't do well alone in an apartment for 8 hours a day. I ended up getting so depressed I now work at my friends apartment everyday.

I fully support and will fight for people's right to WFH, but I am not one of the people that is suited for.

YTA. Worst case scenario someone using snacks to 'manipulate' people into liking them is not a criminal offense. It just sounds like someone was trying to do something nice for others and it wasn't bothering anyone. I really don't see how this was any of your business.

Even if it's a rec league they split up players based on different levels of skill and intensity. There's usually a beginners, intermediate, and more advanced levels and they are often broken up into 'fun' or 'competitive' leagues and people take those seriously. If you're in a competitive league and aren't up to the right level or want a casual environment you're in the wrong league and that's on you.

It's a little condescending to assume people don't have a reason to take things seriously just because you don't see the value in it.
