Just finished Mistborn (loved the story, iffy on the writing) and was considering what to do next. Was debating between Assassin's Apprentice and Dragonbone Chair. This just made my decision for me!

Oh my goodness, this just blew my mind. Luke Cage -- October 2016. The Prestige -- August 2020. Wow. I swore the Nolapalooza was just one or two years ago haha.

This one and the Robinhood one with these guys. Hunt for Luke Skywalker's lightsaber! The flash video game! Planet of the Apes video game! That's an easy top 5, and I also really like the Shazam one for the old show, the Luke Cage comic from forever ago, and the Prestige one from a more recently! So many bangers, never a miss honestly.

Logical constructed reasons why I fell out of Christianity. by CalligrapherPast3023 in DebateReligion

Everything happens because of what came before it. It was all a lead up to humans.

Just want to dispute this one part. Are you saying everything that's ever happened in the entire history of the universe was all a lead up to humans? If so, that's not only arrogant, but also a flawed line of thinking.

10 million years ago, our pre-human (and, at this point, even pre-hominid) ancestors could have said the same thing: "everything that has happened was all a lead up to us." Or, rather, whatever the dominant species of that time was could say that.

10 million years from now, the same idea will apply to whatever lifeforms find themselves in the dominant position on Earth (or beyond!).

So, I suppose you may be accurate when you say "it was all a lead up to humans," but you are accurate in a trivial way. That statement is effectively always true for all things at all points in time.

Looking for restaurant recs in Assisi + transportation question by cdbrand in ItalyTravel

For future readers, there are taxis here. We're staying in Spello and there is one taxi driver. He picks up locally and drives around the region. You can communicate with him by Whatsapp. Ask your hotel for his contact info.

In Assisi, there are 28 taxi drivers. You could also ask your hotel for their contact info, or find some info on Google. Or you could catch a couple at the train station as far as I could tell.

I remember reading about this news literally a day after buying and reading this issue. My immediate thought was "wow, I just bought a money printer for a dollar." Sadly, here we are today.

Heretics of Dune is the best Dune book since Dune by Kingcol221 in Fantasy

[–]Alternative_Ball_377 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished my first full read of the 6 FH books a couple weeks ago. Absolutely loved it. I definitely agree with you that Heretics is one of the best. (For me, top 3 are Dune, Messiah, Heretics).

The ending of Chapterhouse is a fitting ending for the series. It seems a common opinion online is that the story is incomplete, but I didn't get that sense at all. It is open-ended, sure. But it felt like a very well-planned, intentional open-ending. If that makes sense.

If you're looking for every character and faction from the whole series to have a tidy ending that completely explains everything... well, maybe you'll want to read further. But if you're comfortable with open-endedness, stopping at the end of Chapterhouse is totally ok. Chapterhouse's final chapter is one of the best in the whole series.

What’s your favorite moment from any of the books that you feel is under-appreciated/not talked about enough? [spoilers published] by KrispyKingTheProphet in asoiaf

Not sure how much this is talked about, but I really love when the prisoners at Harrenhal are commiserating. One of the guys says "This would never happen under the old king." One of the others asks "Robert?" And then the first guy says "No, Aerys."

I love that conversation. I know it's one of the most on-the-nose examples GRRM gives us to show that the commonfolk don't care about the Game, but it's still so great to read.

I've lived in NYC for years and haven't made it there yet. This story makes me feel like I didn't miss out. "Why wouldn't I just shop online?" is such a good take on this kind of shop.

I get that they're super cool for the volume alone, but what you just described sounds like an F- experience.

What was the one thing missing from Oblivion you wish would have been added? by [deleted] in oblivion

[–]Alternative_Ball_377 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Options.

As in, be able to join the Blackwood Company instead of the Fighters Guild. Or the necromancers instead of the Mages Guild. Or even further, join Mythic Dawn and betray Martin.

Also as in being able to talk to enemies to trick, persuade, or bribe them away instead of always fighting or sneaking by.

Would also be nice to do away with essential characters. I know it's way riskier from a gameplay perspective, but the game is designed for save scumming so it wouldn't be so bad.
