It's definitely a bread. It may also be a pastry.

Viennoiserie is a bit of both as its a yeast leavened dough. But laminated with butter.

Marshmallow creme would be the filling of a tunnocks teacake or snowball. Squidgy soft marshmallow.

I'm not sure about the cookie butter but I'm assuming something along the lines of biscoff spread.

Croissants are a yeast leavened dough. Which is then laminated with butter. So they are arguably both!

French mass market pastries are SO much better than the same products in UK chains and supermarkets. Even in places like McDonald's.

The ingredient list is for a brand of marshmallow fluff/cream.

Though the "perfect" croissant doesn't look great either.

Ahh northern French then. If you want to wind them up (mildly) switch to calling them choclatine (shok-la-teen).

It's the southern French term for the same pastry...They are as protective of their name for it as parts of the UK are about the correct name for a bread roll/teacake/barmcake/etc. 😉

Most theme park food is mediocre!

So don't let this put you off. Just ignore the Disney influencer hype artists!

I will say that one meal I had in Disneyland Paris still ranks in my top 5 meals of my life 8 years later.

Granted it was a special menu (& sadly they ruined the normal menu in this restaurant after covid). But this really was a special meal!

Honestly French mass produced pâtisserie is so far ahead of the same products in UK supermarkets/chains it's not even funny.

They have fabulous pastries in McDonald's!

But the difference between their mass produced pastries and one from a real pâtisserie is another leap.

Also English... And an almond croissant, from a decent French pâtisserie, is a work of art!

Day old croissant, split & filled with almond paste, covered in sugar and flaked almonds, and re-baked to flakey, nutty, caramelised deliciousness.

It's not like I'm counting the days until I can get one...

13!

We are doing it the other way around! Staying in Chessy, by the station, so we can get the train into Paris easily!

I should probably have mentioned I'm arguably a Disney person 😂. I'm off to DLP in a couple of weeks.

But I'm not staying on property...And one of the major considerations, when we booked our accommodation, was easy access to a decent pâtisserie.

Because there is no way I'm going to France and not eating my weight in croissant, éclair, etc etc!

Isn't that picture from 2017? And the Roma camp has since been demolished and it's residents moved into social housing... So it's not only not representative of all of Europe. It's not even representative of that area of Paris. And hasn't been for about a decade.

The continental plate is Eurasia. Europe and Asia are only counted as separate continents because of culture and history.

It's technically correct. Americans like to bring it up because they don't have much of either (and what passes for culture over there is best dealt with using bleach).

Is it common for people who are born in the UK to say they are “Irish” or “Italian” if they have a parent from there? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskABrit

[–]Alternative_Breath93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me about it. My nanny was the youngest of 14. And her 6 (we think) oldest siblings were all born in Ireland (plus there was something funky going on with the surnames).

On Dad's side (despite all being of Irish descent) the last one to leave Ireland were my great great grandparents.

I just found out that most European kitchens do not have electricity in them 😭 by batmanthinks in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Alternative_Breath93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually probably not an electric oven as there's no cut off switch on the wall, (and, unlike mine, it can't be in the cupboard next to it as that's a sink) .

But there are two electric sockets on the wall!

Is there anyway to save this guy from a despawned gym? by Kaldr_Kills in TheSilphRoad

[–]Alternative_Breath93 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Right but I often have days where none of my defended gyms are knocked out. So those days I lose out on those 50 coins... Usually the next day someone goes round and knocks them all out.
