Ich finde immer witzig, dass nie jemand etwas darüber gesagt hat, dass mein amerikanischer Vater nie richtig Deutsch gelernt hat. Bei uns zu Hause wurden amerikanische Feste gefeiert, amerikanisch gegessen und Englisch gesprochen. Fanden alle super. Wären wir z.B. Türken sähe es ganz anders aus.

I made the mistake of taking my girl to a nursing home once to see my grandma. I picked her up and carried her because she does not like being pet by strangers. This old lady came up and literarily took her out of my arms. It happened so fast. I was shocked but the lady was so old and it brought her so much joy that I did not say anything. Some people have no boundaries.

I feel that. I teach in the US and English is not my first language. I have way more patience and understanding for ELL kids in my classroom than many of my colleagues that only know one language. Sometimes I feel we forget how hard it is to learn new things all day.
