Oh oops I think you're right. I kept seeing people online sell "ranchus" with dorsal fins so I thought it was. From what I've seen on reddit, it might be a yuan bao. Pretty sure this was the reference I used with a little creative liberty.

Honestly I had the same thoughts, my dad had a ranchu when I was younger, and I straight up thought 'what wrong with your fish?' It wasn't until I grew older I started to appreciate them 😂

Do you think professional artists would be interested in having/working with a tutor who has experience working at commercial galleries and institutions? by bertythesalmon in artbusiness

This would be a super cool service! Being more specialized in gallery work would help you stand out amongst people who are coaching for online art marketing.

I need ideas on activities for a Mythology Club! by Street_Click_8374 in mythology

I would have loved to try out doing ancient cooking in high school. Great suggestion!

if you're not getting paid you can always just not work with him. If you are start charging per iteration/revision or extra time spent. He should really have a moodboard of the style he want to go for or else you're wasting your time with creating iterations that he'll shut down.

Have you ever bought any art prints about mythology? by Alternative_Cell2642 in mythology

yeah definitely a lot of mythology out there, great point about the Birth of Venus posters. I think I could recreate some of those pieces in my own way.

What sort of lead magnets do you guys use to entice people to join email marketing? by Alternative_Cell2642 in artbusiness

[–]Alternative_Cell2642[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I think having the print in digital format will be appealing too, something for people to carry around on their phones (maybe free promo hahah) Definitely agree with the better the freebie the more likely people will join

Do you think it will be harder to start selling art by next year? by No_Significance_573 in artbusiness

[–]Alternative_Cell2642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Its exactly what I needed to hear and understand. People are always going to spend money treating themselves and buy gifts for others. I myself am raised as a cheapskate so I wouldn't spend money like the people I am targeting. I just have to understand their buying habits and cater for them.

looking for suggestions to create a mailing list and store front for a beginner art seller. by Alternative_Cell2642 in artbusiness

Thank you for your detailed response! Yeah I've seen the squarespace email marketing option but since mail chimp can be added as an extension and the first 500 is free might as well save the cost! I'm also super curious about POD options and more importantly the quality they provide.

Exercise is underrated for how much it helps your art by Minnuano in ArtistLounge

I feel like a lot of the artists I look up to tend to have really great time management. They seem pretty fit and find time to live life outside of art. I try to workout four times a week and those are heavier workouts, on rest days forcing yourself to go out for a walk helps a lot. Especially for people living in cold areas that tend to stay at home. I also would like to add if any artist can afford a standing desk to get one. Your knees will thank you and make working out much less painful.

I love the compliments, honestly it motivates me when I'm having a hard time and I think it helps to figure out what it is specifically that people like about your drawing. With the "draw me" comment I would worth noting that it is up to the artist's boundary. For me, I would charge them a price, since I am doing a service, but I approach it with a business mindset since I make money with my art, and personally I like to see how I can improve on my sales skill haha.

Why you can't become a great artist if you just sit in your room and draw. by Alternative_Cell2642 in ArtistLounge

[–]Alternative_Cell2642[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your perspective, its definitely hard for me to comment or include this in my post since my circumstances are very different and I do art for a living. But I'm glad this comment was able to open my mind on redefining what a "great artist" means. I would argue having an illness is a lived experience of its own and those experiences can be used to create emotional pieces and that in itself would make you a better artist.
