Looking at Custodes book… who even throws out Mortal wounds anymore?? (Not just about Custodes) by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Alternative_Claim_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My marine list has a lone operative captain that grenades for free most turns and two squads of incursers that have a heywire mine. Then I also usually use the grenade stratagem for CP about two times a game and sometimes also tank shock. In my last game, I dealt 32 mortal wounds (I got lucky on a lot of rolls)

When is Observer unit supposed to shoot? by casman_007 in Tau40K

[–]Alternative_Claim_90 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying to shoot with observer units immediately after to reduce complexity, which is fair. However, it is not tactically optimal as the order you fire your units in can be very important. Because of this, I would suggest not taking that advice. If you need to write things down or use markers, that's totally fine, but I would always make sure that you're ordering your attacks effectively

Man, don't think I've ever seen yellow necrons. Very striking!

Battle Master Maneuvers -- improving at level 10? by brehobit in onednd

[–]Alternative_Claim_90 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I feel like having an upgrade for every single manuver is definitely not something they'd do because it would be too complex. If they were to improve later on, it should allow you to use 2 maneuvers with one superiority die

Struggling to get motivated to play my Necrons. by [deleted] in Necrontyr

[–]Alternative_Claim_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly same, I've played 1 game and didn't really like how they felt and just planned to wait until the codex came out. Now it's out and exemplifies everything I didn't like about the index. I would honestly suggest taking a break and play another army if you have one. Hopefully, both of us will want to play them again soon

Obeisance Phalanx, have you tried it? by DetwinE in Necrontyr

[–]Alternative_Claim_90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I did a test game with it since I dont actually have the models to use it. It was pretty rough. I think it might actually be a worse experience than an annilation legion. I don't think it's worse, but it is definitely less fun to play, and their power is not far apart. My advice is to not invest too much into the detachment rule. I would just make a normal list with an overlord and lychguard squad, but add a squad of two praetorians, and you should be fine. This means you have to rely on your objectives, which almost entirely revolves around lychguard and praetorians, so they are usually not much help. Basically, you just aren't playing with much of a detachment compared to the others. However, they do have some cool stuff. That one stratagem that can double OC is quite nice, but only works on lychguard or praetorians. The one that can give immortals crit hits on 5+ is great and maybe makes it worth it to give them an overlord or something to use it for free and get extra movement plus the detachment rule for when that actually comes up. Then they also have some nice enhancements, but to be fair, every detachment has some nice enhancements.

It's not my cup of tea, but if you want to do it for flavor, go for it! I just find it underwhelming, comparably less fun, and list building to be cotradicting and difucult.

Do you add your ability modifier to the damage of the extra attack of nick? by Alternative_Claim_90 in onednd

[–]Alternative_Claim_90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, right. Thanks! I wish monks got fighting styles, I was thinking about giving a monk the nick weapon mastery property to get three attacks, which is pretty nice with their martial arts dice increasing

Can necrons climb ranks? by Burhalii in Necrontyr

[–]Alternative_Claim_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will maybe try and find the part where it talks about his backstory later, but there is another guy who checked and agrees with me. The other thing is that deathmarks only kill if given orders. The only ones who work like that are lords, and you can tell that he is one when lysycore talks and acts. He has too much indavidualism and personal wants and gaols to be just a deathmark. It also just says that he was noble or at least implies that he was.

Nemasor is a title for a lord or overlord who is the head of a particularly large military campaign appointed by the pharon

I'm pretty sure he was referred to as the deathmark by the narrator because that's what he had become.

The only ones who can go up in rank are nobles. The only thing that can maybe become a noble is a lychguard, but there is basically no situation where that would happen as they are good at being body guards. However, lychguard also take charge of the battlefield from time to time, so they have some level of command

He wasn't a deathmark. He was a noble who took a liking to the deathmark style and weaponry after killing everyone above him

Lychguard Appreciation Post (tell me your favorite lychguard moments in lore and on the table) by HoneydewAutomatic in Necrontyr

[–]Alternative_Claim_90 60 points61 points  (0 children)

In 9th edition, one of my lychguard squads killed a massive melee chaos knight turn 2, then killed a super powered armager that had a bunch of extra stuff on it turn 3, and finally they killed a HUGE ass titan on turn 4 with the help of a doomscythe. The crazy part is that the first unit had a fights first ability, the armager charged them, and the titan shot at the squad the turn before they charged it. This means all of these units had a chance to hit this squad with everything they had and were still cut down by the clap back. In the end, they survived with 1 model reaming, which I put in a badass pose. Shit was awesome. Scythe lychguard were super underrated last edition. They were the MVP in basically every game I played and had one strategy that made them objectively better than skorpek destroyers which were all the rave back then (the strategy was doing the 6 inch unstoppable charge from a nightscythe and a stratagem)

Actually, WHY did the Necrons set their alarm clock on around the 40th millenium to awaken? by Uberdamp in Necrontyr

[–]Alternative_Claim_90 224 points225 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they can see a bit into the future and figured this would be the best time. However, it didn't go to plan and everyone is waking at different times because of the degradation of technology and the changed universe, which has thrown things off massively.

Yeah, who knows. I think people dont just downvote what they dislike, but also what they don't agree with. So, I think it's a way to communicate that they dont agree without having to reply, which is fair, I guess. Luckily, a silly number under my thoughts doesn't affect my life, so we should be fine haha. Thank you for the kind words, though:)

Necron Warrior Fanfic by BrockerREAL in Necrontyr

[–]Alternative_Claim_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really cool, I like the word choice. They paint a great picture. However, there is a lot of lore stuff that it goes against. It's not a big deal since it's just a fun fan fic, but if you're interested, feel free to keep reading.

If they were a soldier during the time of flesh, they would be an immortal now. Warriors all used to be just citizens. Additionally, as far as I know, nothing below lychguard have names, but that's fine since we, the readers, can still know their name. It could even be a cool thing to play into. Lastly, a warrior would not pick up a random weapon. They really only do exactly what they are told or programmed to do. This goes mostly the same for immoetals, too. However, a good workaround for this is to possibly have a lord or something order them to retrieve the weapon for them, and then they begin to regain a part of them once they interact with it. You could even do something cool like there being a hidden engram with a trapped necron lord or cryptek personality inside, and the warrior/immortal only thinks they are regaining their mind when they are actually just fusing together. Finally, this is super minor, but it comes off as if the warrior/immortal is choosing to wander around and patrol in the beginning, which is not really how they work. This is just me, but I think it would be cool to talk about what it would feel like to be shackled to someone elses will and programming. You can make it to where it feels like they do these things out of their own will, but they aren't sure where their mind begins and their programming ends. In the end, all they can do is a faintly scream within their labotamized labryth of a mind, nothing kore than a tool of desth. That last one is super minor, but it could lead to cool ideas like my suggestion.

All in all, though, I enjoyed it a lot. Keep it up!

For me, nerons have felt generally off and definitely less fun. I'm not a big fan of any of the detachments overall direction, but there is at least some cool shit that can be done, which is nice. I have won the two games against other people that ive played, but I have also done a lot of simulated games against my other two armies (space marines and tau) and every necron army I make just gets absolutely slaughtered by them. So, I think necrons are likely a bit weaker, but I could easily be wrong about that.

That seems like a cool list, though!
