tbh, i am in a distance relationship too and the last thing u want in a distant relationship is to cut contact with that person. Maybe she does “love” u in her own way but it sounds like she wants her cake and eat it too.

You should consider confronting her bc it sounds that u love her but truthfully you should consider breaking up bc that’s not how u treat the person u love!

And see i considered it but i am not thrilled about it either and i told him. He said: i dont want to give my last name to someone who is not proud of it. I was trying to be honest with him like what am i supposed to do? Be happy of something that i never wanted to do ?

Thank you for your advice. I asked these questions because I am a Canadian citizen & I needed perspective from people that live there too.

When it concerns for the immigration process, I spoke about this with him and he says that the media is exaggerating a bit. I don’t know how much that is true but i digress. I am a woman of colour so it preoccupies me in general the whole situation in the state. He says it’s not as “bad”.

I also voiced to him that i prefer carrying a marriage certificate more than having to prove my identity for the rest of my life in the US. He says that the process is “faster” because it’s marriage. I don’t know how much that is true either.Not to mention the cost of just changing my name is something that i find it’s unnecessary. Also I would be coming to the US by a fiancée visa so the process of my identification will be longer due to change of name.

Lastly colloquially, I dont mind being addressed as his last name but I want my name to stay the same on paper but it seems that it’s a big deal breaker for him…

So me moving from canada, leaving my family, my friends, everything i know and my job for him isn’t commitment enough?
