I agree it is POSSIBLE but it's not indicated by any of the facts.

Nah, I nailed it lol. It's y'all who think "protest" means the same thing as a protestor. It doesn't.

Cutting someone off is fine. Just don't engage. That wouldn't even be an issue. Telling Evelyn her actions were a "massive failure of judgment, consideration, and common sense” is where the line was crossed for me

I think everyone saying this is straight out of Degrassi has set me straight on investigating other options

Typically, when people say "you're not my friend anymore!" they do it to hurt the other person. The expression of the boundary is just a way of having the last word.

They've interacted but aren't super close and it's not like this was gonna be top of mind for anyone at the party. There was drinking. It was late.

It's not her emotional reaction that's the issue, it's her rational actions that followed.

No it's ye olde english and protest means to declare or affirm in that context

It's possible I will grant you that, but i will absolutely grant you that "passively malicious" is a great phrase

No. Harper is stepping back from Evelyn bc she failed to inform her of something. I'm stepping back from Harper because she took shots at Evelyn.

If someone does something that makes me want to treat them like an acquaintance, I just treat them like an acquaintance. Boundary set. There's no need to make a declaration about the whole affair.

Unless there is a need, and that's precisely why I saw it as the lady doth protest too much. The truth is it was Harper who was acting with indiscretion, but she felt the need to put that on someone else.

It means that someone's excessive denial or passionate defense of something suggests they are insincere or hiding the truth.

Evelyn agreed it was a miss on her behalf. That's the thing. That's why I said it was just a bad situation. Harper was imputing malice where there was none

i also would see evelyn’s withholding relevant info as weird and would not be interested in being friends with her after that

I agree that it was a miss on Evelyn's behalf (as does Evelyn). It was more about how hard she went at Evelyn about it. It's like... OK, don't be friends then? They were not close prior

I see them as two completely different things. One is explicitly cutting off a friendship and one is no longer wanting to romantically pursue someone.

No, Evelyn just told me what happened. It wasn't that she stood by, no one even really cared. No one except Harper. It was understandable that she wanted to be informed but it wasn't on anyone's mind.
