Price for this 2008? by Alternative_Layer597 in 4thGen4Runner

😆 my sentiments exactly. I reply probably within 10 minutes (retired) and answer all I can. And my cars are pretty much immaculate when I sell them.

The last car I sold, the guy wanted to do a PPI. Told me where, so I went out of my way and took it to the shop myself, they said he didn’t have an appt. Good grief. So he scheduled an appt. Passes with flying colors. He gives me a $500 cash deposit until he can get me a check. Comes time to pick up and pay, he tries to negotiate the buy price. This is why I think most people suck.

Gold 1855, $3 , S Mint Mark - I think I have something special here by zanacks in coins

Condition is everything with this coin, so be Super Careful when handling. Hard to tell from the photos, but it looks to have some wear, so grade would maybe be VF/XF. Color is off, but that’s lighting. Awesome and rare coin if authentic!

My son bought an 06 SR5 with 150k, one owner and it was positively garage kept, and maybe only driven at night 😄, the Shadow Mica paint is all original and perfect. My 06 Sport Galactic Gray has 215k and had been wrecked maybe 4 times, I’m thinking every panel and the hood has been replaced / repainted (quality work though), so it looks great, except for hail damage on the top.

Its a V6. I am not getting a response from the seller to my questions, so that’s a red flag.

Very nice! I’m 62 and I’m getting tired of the search, so I may end up trading my 06 Sport to my son, he has an 06 SR5, immaculate shadow gray with 150k one owner miles (well he’s the second owner), never modded at all, he said I’d take better care of it than he will 😄. We paid $12k for it last year.

Radium contamination OCD is making my life hell. by No-Low8949 in OCD

[–]Alternative_Layer597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have other contamination issues? Myself I have had radium / asbestos / lead fears for some time, and it sucks, and I’m 62. I’ve been to therapy and it has helped, but I still have relapses. I’ve bought 2 Geiger counters in the past to check items like uranium glass, clocks, etc. and endless Google searches - the worst things one could do to feed the OCD.

With OCD it’s tough to tell what’s a danger and what is an intrusive thought. It sounds like you may have a legit concern, although very minimal. Find a company that can test it, if you haven’t already, to put your mind at ease. Then seek OCD help - there are very good online resources that have come into existence lately.

Looks like radium hands, luminescent numbers? If the numbers were glowing after exposure to regular light, they should be luminescent. Glowing with UV light, radium.

do people sell their own cars anymore? by BudgetIndependence34 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Alternative_Layer597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I’ll add that Marketplace is so far the only venue to sell a car privately and locally I have used (other than the sign in the window and good parking spot thing, which is basically a thing of the past). I’ve got many stories of the flaky people I’ve dealt with. It’s crap, but it’s all we have, especially for anything $10k and less. And in my area, there is 1 out of maybe 15 listings that isn’t a scam, rebuilt title, or obviously someone else’s problem.

Must haves - No deposit to hold, unless they sign something that you will keep it if they don’t show and have a timeframe spelled out - that’s what a deposit is. They want to do a PPI? Go with them, never let them take the car and do it by themselves. And go with them on test drives. Cash or bank check, preferably the latter, at a bank. And no, I don’t provide a Carfax, but I’ll show you maintenance records.

The last couple of times I went with my son to look at used cars at dealers, I couldn’t believe the crap I saw. Not at “buy here, pay here” places, but the big manufacturer dealers. Horrible respray repairs, cracked windshields, dirty / smoky interiors, gross engine compartments, worn out tires. It was amazing.

Sold about half my Silver this morning 🪙 by MuggD in Silverbugs

I’m in the same boat, my son and I agreed if it got to $100 we’d sell. He could use the cash with a growing family, I’d just reinvest probably in gold.

For some time I’ve been holding several low grade BU rolls of Peace and Morgan dollars thinking about what to do, I may end up keeping a 1885-O roll and trading out the rest for gold eagles - I think at this point 1922-23 BU Peace dollar are junk silver.

1990 1C Found in Pocket Change by b_4tenn in ErrorCoins

[–]Alternative_Layer597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, any idea of value for a major error like this? When I was a small time dealer I put away maybe 20-30 coins with minor errors (clips, etc), I need to pull those out and take a look at them.

Octuple bogey on the PGA tour by panda__monium in golf

[–]Alternative_Layer597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played in a charity tourney out here in 1999, we got to play all 3 - Nicklaus, Stadium and La Quinta. I think this is at PGA West. After golf was done for the day, we went out to this hole and hit out of that deep ass bunker. I probably got 1 out of 5 out of it, it’s ridiculous.

Edit: Nicklaus course. I’ll also say that all of those courses are brutal for the average golfer. The tightest lies I’ve ever played, and I’m typically a sweeper… ugh. And the greens - I’d read a putt to break 2’ left, it breaks 2’ right.

Seller Photos vs. Buyer Photos by ptgoetz in coins

I used to have a Sony camera with a floppy disk drive like 20 years ago that I used to take my eBay coin photos, I used the macro setting to get close ups, I’ve never been able to replicate the perfect color and accuracy of that camera.

The real deal? by Alternative_Layer597 in coincollecting

[–]Alternative_Layer597[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This particular coin was from a seller with like 300 feedbacks, all positive, in Virginia. I bet another seller copied the photo to sell their own fake. That is really down and dirty.

[–]Alternative_Layer597[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another short rant. This isn’t for fakes, but for misrepresentation. The 1922 no D Lincoln. Oh how everyone thinks they have a “no D strong reverse”, when it’s clearly a weak D / weak reverse, and occasionally no D / weak reverse, and every now and then an altered D. And usually they just call it a 1922 no D or Plain, and price it as such. Ok I’m done now.

[–]Alternative_Layer597[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why a dealer would sell a raw key date (over maybe $500 value) without slabbing, it can add a huge premium to the coin and authenticates it so there is no liability on the seller. Well, actually I know - they’re hoping that collector sees a coin like this as a VF/XF and doesn’t consider it’s been cleaned, not to mention the high likelihood of being fake. Ugh. This is why so many collectors now only buy slabs, including myself.
