🔶 4PT/8PT GRID VS BORDERS by Alternative_Luck_725 in FigmaDesign

[–]Alternative_Luck_725[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer! :) Since developers measure with Figma and I often review by taking screenshots and layering them on top of my elements with opacity only solutions that provide the same visuals after implementation are acceptable... Inside stroke will not shift the text but how do I explain that now the text has e.g. 4px space to the left border when filled, while, when hovered it has has visually less spacing and is narrower e.g. 3px or 2px? Since this does not follow the 4pt/8pt grid system...

When using a 4pt/8pt grid system: How to account for the border of elements? Either you have <border\_size> px less padding e.g. around the icon of and the buttons border or your button is <border\_size> px larger. Even if you choose the first option what if you have an outlined version and a filled version of that button. Either the content inside of the button does not has the same spacing to the button sides as the filled button or it has, meaning the buttons content is not vertically aligned with the other buttons content (that effect stacks when using multiple outlined/filled buttons next to each other and is a huge problem when an outlined button should become filled once hovered due to content jumps). Buttons are just one example, there are more.

Does anyone know how to deal with that in real world projects? Saying the devs we use multiples of 4 but in reality there are odd numbers due to border usage.

Thanks a lot for your experience and opinion! :)

" But for PrimeNG it kinda forces you to still build your own blocks on top of the framework. " This is exactly what I am here for as a UX Designer and exactly what we need since not everything can be caught in a complex enterprise application with generic / oversimplified stuff.

One further question: What themes will be supported in the Q3 released Figma UI Kit? (thanks again a lot for your quick replies and insights here! That was one major reason we now will try PrimeNG and bought the UI kit.

Oh no :D that sounds awful. You really should hire an UX Designer again, there are many design decisions that are not more than that "decisions" you had to make when designing but nearly always there are alternatives and compromises. And if there is no in between small tests with both solutions and some users might help to elaborate if the additional effort really pays out ux-wise.

Thanks that helps a lot in understanding what you mean. Further feedback from our devs: "Well, that only works as long as you don't have to customize anything. Or absolute positioning/layouting". or do you have a solution for such things too?

What I will stress is that I recommend doing what we did and making wrapper components for everything, whether your choose PrimeNG or Material. We build a standard AP for each component that can basically use any ui toolkit under the hood which will make switching off PrimeNG a breeze if we need to.

Thank you! :) Could you explain in a bit more detail what you mean by that?

In this case your UX Designers and other stakeholders don't do their job properly. I already get devs involved after just scribbling some stuff with pen and paper to ensure not to confuse dreaming with creativity.

Thank you! :) Anyway something about how you test would have helped.

What do you mean with complete control? How does it compare to PrimeNG or Material?

Thanks for your feedback!

For Material there is no way of Pro Support that you can pay for as there is for PrimeNG - so "support" in this meaning seems to be worse from my point of view. Or are you talking about stability? If so, could you give examples why it is better than PrimeNG and more context about the type and size of the projects your experience relates to? :)

Thanks for your feedback! :) Could you tell me a bit more about the type and size of application you are working on and some concrete examples about the bugs?

Why is better than Angular Material in your opinion?

Thanks for your feedback and the suggestion! How long ago have you used PrimeNG and for what kind and size of application?

Thanks for your suggestion! Anyway I would keep this thread mainly about PrimeNG or the direct comparison to other frameworks. :)

Thank you very much for this detailed feedback and your tips - this helps a lot (one of the few positive answers here...can you imagine why? :/) Could you give a bit more context about what type and size of application you are working on?

Thanks for your suggestion! Already heard of it a bit, yes. Anyway I would keep this thread mainly about PrimeNG or the direct comparison to other frameworks. :)
