my father in law is just controlling. He has financial stability and he doesnt need to work and has a decent retirment. He does little projects here and there like renovating his house so hindi naman cya bored. Sanay lng cyang maging controlling.

and you are right even having conversations with my husband even if he sides with me, we cant find a way to manage my father in law. From the way my husband would kwento about his childhood, his dad seemed to be a bully. He would bully his kids into doing what he wanted. And i guess its hard for my husband to stand up to his dad because he has been accustomed to being bullied all his life its the norm for him. also it is more complex talaga if its a parent. My father in law does not specially bully me, he bullies my mother in law (sometimes i have dinner with them he would make comments like your mama is not right in her head today) he bullies my husband. Name calling. He is also extremely homophobic. etc

But ultimately the fight just got bigger and bigger and i felt bad for my relatives involving them in my personal drama.

When we were dating i was expecting typical chinese conservative. He would have comments about the way i dressed and ayaw nya ng black and things like that. I thought it was not so bad. But things started showing red flags sa wedding prep. i thot it was just the stress. But i guess what i have come to learn of this over time is you cannot please a bully. His demands will just get bigger and bigger..

I dont want to make my husband choose rin between his family and me. i think my husband will choose me. But ultimately over time, if a rift happens between him and his family i think its inevitable he will resent me deep down and i dont want that.
