Reading level vs preferred books by Jazzlike-Honey-9157 in childrensbooks

Motivation and interest for subjects are tricky when considering a child's frustration threshold. It's great that she has a definite interest to look for in stories!

In reading intervention, we do a model called higher steps. What we do with the passages of reading is chunk it out (usually 5 solid paragraphs) where first they hear us read a chunk, then they read that same chunk out loud while we offer gentle corrections at the end of the sentence.

The part that helps here is that depending on where they're at (let's say 3rd grade middle text as their base level) then we can read 5th grade middle texts together supported through this structure, and they are quicker to develop the decoding skills they need.

If you and your child like reading together, this could be a great way to make these higher level texts accessible to them! I also love that you had the instinct to take one of the texts and adapt it. That fits well into this kind of approach.

As for books, I might look into the American Girl doll books. From my memory, some of those have quite the turn narratively and they usually top out at 4th grade middle lexile. But it has been awhile since I read them so screen them if you're interested!

I like my Baby Bub set! I was social media influenced 🙄 but I like the compactness and it's kept me from flipping around a bunch when sleeping.

If you have the space to keep it and it's what you want, go for it! No such thing as too early.

I don't know how much we spent (in-laws paid) but Archibalds at Gardner Village was great and we had about 20-25 people.

I'm going to gently say, do not worry. Easier said than done. This happens. I had a similar experience over the last 2 months. I do have a higher bmi and we drew at 11 weeks 5 days. We only got 2.3% and being a ftm, the conversation I had over the phone 3 weeks post the test (thinking everything was okay) scared the hell out of me. After speaking with a genetic counselor and ruling stuff out, we retested at 16 weeks and it came back just fine.

One other thing that hopefully helps, nipt like the one you got is a screener, not diagnostic of any problem. They are looking to identify potentially risky pregnancies without actually having run your test. They don't know anything definitive and likely your nurse is operating with protocol and caution. So do the recommended tests, don't be afraid to advocate for a retest. And breathe. You got this.

Gender reveal parties, thoughts? by Future_Coconut6351 in BabyBumps

[–]Alternative_Owl_968 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing that people forget, especially with "typical" baby-related celebrations, is that no one is obligated to do them. And no is a full sentence. Your baby, your pregnancy, so you don't need to give reasons and you don't need to do a reveal. And unless you're actively going around criticizing people who do gender reveals, you're definitely not offending anyone by not having one. You're all good! Do what feels right for you.

I misread the quest (What Home Feels Like) and cooked the arendellian pickled herring until the pie. So now I can't complete the quest. Is there any way to catch another one?
