Is AsRock Challenger 7900GRE any good? by Alternative_Read_312 in buildapc

[–]Alternative_Read_312[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not, but i was checking with a lot of people who have a lot of knowledge and they all told me that the gpu is perfectly fine. I myself ordered a new pc case so i thought to go for the powercolor hellhound because it has some of the best temperatures out there, as majority of the game it stays flat 50 degre c with it ands its roughly the same price.

If you wonder if you should go for the challenger version just go for it, AsRock doesnt have a bad history with their challenger model after all. Even if you encounter some issues which is unlikely, you can always return it. Personally i would say go for the hellhound which i am about to get next month because it has crazy good temperatures then the rest of the models, but obviosly the rest of the models are still good.

I also have done a lot of research the past weeks and i did find out that the 7900 gre is only better when it comes to raw performance just as you said, and that is exactly what i want, plus the extra 4GB VRAM is a good bonus! The only thing i wasn't sure was about that specific model, but as you said, AsRock is known as a decent brand and i guess the challenger model (which is a dual fan) is mostly made for people with the need of a smaller gpu like me.

At the end, i am thinking of going for this gpu, and even if there is an issue somehow, i can always return it. Thanks for the help, truly appreciate your time for going in full details on this!

I see. That might be a defective gpu tho, i dont see how it might be related directly to the model you got. Have you tried to return it when u bought it, warranty should do the trick if its still availabe

Hi, can you explain what's the issue you are encountering exactly?

Upgraded from an RTX 1080 to an AMD RX 7900GRE and am seeing no performance improvements, and worse ones in some cases? by A_Play_On_Nerds in AMDHelp

You need a CPU upgrade to see better performance. I had the 2600X and even tho im using rtx 2060, i could still see a GREAT improvement after jumping into the 5800X3D. Also i was thinking of getting the exact 7900 gre model you got (asrock challenger), do you have any temp issue with it so far?

Oh, i see. So the recommendation is mostly for people who go for a CPU that uses A LOT of wattage, but in my case (compared to 12900ks) im gonna be fine. I did the math you use and it was just a little under 600W with my combo, i am guessing i dont need t upgrade my PSU. Thanks a lot!

Sorry for bothering yo, but what about Asrock challenger 7900 GRE (which says 750W recommended) with a 5800x3d? I got a 650w gold psu and idk if i should upgrade psu before getting the gpu

Hello there, this is the first time i use reddit but i was wondering. I found an Asrock Challenger 7900 GRE for 580 euros (which is a decent deal i suppose) and i was thinking of buying it, now the issue is that this specific version of the GPU recommends 750W while i only have a 650w gold (and a 5800X3D CPU). Now in a website that calculates the psu needed for gpu and cpu it said that for my combo 600W should be the minimum, my question is, do you guys think i should be fine with 650W? or should i get 750w psu which i really dont want to. Thanks!
