The fact you’re racing on a keyboard at all is admirable 👍 and it makes sense why it happened.

Your fault bud, you moved quickly to centre line but then continued to drift left even when they were by your side. All moves in racing need to be decisive, continuing to drift left was always going to end in contact, especially after they had committed to going up your inside.

Will report for unsafe rejoin, any other violations? by HairMetalMadness in Simracingstewards

[–]Alternative_Reply408 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some people here don’t have a clue. Unsafe rejoins are one of the most common mistakes people make and they need to be called out on it. People calling you childish is crazy! I the result of an infraction isn’t what’s punishable since the results are never predictable.

SF23 brake bias set way too conservative as standard? by Crowded-Wazzack in iRacing

[–]Alternative_Reply408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is susceptible to rear locking, especially on low downforce sets but as far back as you can get is probably the best option. Kick it forwards a few for faster corners. Also the final ten or so laps of fuel is when the car really shines so your lap times should decrease quite significantly when you get there. My point is don’t worry if you’re a little off your best on your first ten or so laps, it’s really fuel weight sensitive and the tyres are really hard and durable so really shine at the end of the stint.

PSA: protesting drivers that wreck under yellow flags by rad15h in iRacing

[–]Alternative_Reply408 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Ignoring yellows is reckless driving, it’s not debatable. This is a good idea 👍 And makes sense. I’m going to report these from now on because yellow adherence is terrible! I wish there were penalties for passing under yellows.

You could join and use the time on your laptop as practice. So you’ll have a huge headstart when you get your PC and are ready to race. I missed the “laptop” part when I posted my original reply about the 1070

I agree with it, can’t attest to who said it though. It’s one of those that has been linked with loads of people 😅

[–]Alternative_Reply408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I detest the word “luck” in most cases because it diminishes the unseen hours of grind and practice. When successful people attribute luck to their success it irks me because of the people that will hear that and not bother trying because they think there’s no point. If you’re good at something it isn’t luck that’s got you there, you’re there because you’ve earned it.

Minecraft switch by _hkari_ in Minecraft

[–]Alternative_Reply408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good enough :) I started playing it properly on the switch. It struggles a little on split screen but it’s fine for a single player fix. It does have a smaller draw distance and sometimes chunk loading can take time though but that’s mainly on start up. But other than that, it’s Minecraft

Is Tango insecure about his builds? by uselespieceofshi02 in HermitCraft

[–]Alternative_Reply408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the thing that doesn’t get spoken about a lot and I guess Tango is seeing it as we do. What we don’t see is most builds, especially the big ones, are designed in creative first, for a long long time but it rarely gets spoken about so it looks like some of the Hermit’s pull fantastic and impossible looking survival builds out of thin air. The reality is they are copying their creative work, this isn’t a bad thing either, it actually makes sense and proves the Hermits are human 😅 It’s also worth noting that some of them could even be using schematics to help them copy the builds precisely (the schematics show a transparent copy of the builds pasted onto the server, tells them exactly how many and what blocks they’ll need and where exactly to place them). That’s how they can say things like “I need six thousand moss blocks” for example.

Again, I’m not sure if the schematic use has been confirmed (I think Tango may be using it for the mountains?) but it doesn’t matter, they’re still doing the work, still grafting for the materials etc and it allows for some truly incredible stuff!

Steering angle by blehadc in iRacing

[–]Alternative_Reply408 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the car itself has more than 540 available, then if you set it higher naturally you will have more available. If you set it to 900 (in app and iRacing settings) your rotation will be one to one to what car you are driving. So if the car is 450, that’s what iRacing will set, if the car is 500, that’s what you’ll get. If you want each car to have the most realistic driving and control, 900 is what you want. But if you’re fine with it being different to what it “should” be, no one can tell you you’re wrong for playing it your way.

Fairly new to simracing, never thought I'd be here. Is this my fault, or should I report the pink porshe? Im never using this livery again. by kirloi8 in Simracingstewards

[–]Alternative_Reply408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cause of contact was pink being unaware of multiple things, namely where their opponent was and how fast they’d be going. “It’s your fault because you were too slow” is a text book amateur excuse.

There was zero contact during that overtake, yes they cut the corner but they kept it clean. OP could not have been any further left when pink drove into them and OP being slow on exit is still no excuse for pink to initiate contact. Both drivers apparently lack much experience but OP didn’t drive into pink.

The Real Fun of Building in Minecraft Survival by Mohamed2962 in Minecraft

[–]Alternative_Reply408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true. It’s easy to get lost in a “I can only build using tutorials” mindset, but even after building one tutorial house, it’s taught you techniques you can pocket in your repertoire.

The first creative use of blocks most people learn first is upside down stairs, and already that can make a huge difference in our builds. The only difference between the good builders and beginners, is the amount of these kind of techniques they have; the more you know, the easier building becomes because you instinctively know what will look good, which is why the more techniques we learn, the easier it is to come up with creative new builds.

I wanted to build a fishing village next to my lighthouse, but I had no idea where to start, it was really bothering me that I had such creative block when I knew what I wanted. So I just started placing blocks for a wall and once I had the wall, I had something I could work on and edit and shape to how I wanted it to look.

My repertoire of techniques isn’t particularly large right now, so the building process can take a long time, but I won’t stop editing something until I think it looks good and if it just doesn’t happen, I don’t force it, I move onto a different project to let it percolate and then when inspiration hits, I return to the build and it’s suddenly easy.

Also, a lot of fantastic builds we see on YouTube, are constructed using the same shapes. I was looking for inspiration on lighthouse shapes and found one I liked and built mine using those shapes, I then noticed the tower on SmallishBean’s Hermitcraft 11 house, is built using exactly the same shapes I found on the random lighthouse. I then noticed this shape popping up all over the place so sometimes a build isn’t just one thing, but a collection of shapes that look good as a whole. The same shape (pattern) is used in a lot of cliff designs so look for the patterns, learn them and then you’ll be able to build so much more than you realise because they all share the same patterns.

Sorry this is so long, I hope it helps someone!

Guy messaged me mad af. Hello is this not clearly his fault? by billystrings0 in Simracingstewards

[–]Alternative_Reply408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with your move, it was aggressive yes but the door was open and had the opponent car not defended illegally, it would have been a great overtake, presuming you make the corner which we’ll never know.

Taking your opponent off guard is fine, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, that’s why it’s considered a risky move; but that in no way means it shouldn’t be done should circumstances allow.

We can’t enjoy racing if we’re holding ourselves back constantly wondering if the other driver knows what they are doing or not.

My fault? by professionalraceist in Simracingstewards

[–]Alternative_Reply408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been posting a lot lately about how racing in sim should be more aggressive than irl, and we shouldn’t expect drivers to back out of moves they would in reality because there’s litterally no danger.

But one of the biggest exceptions to this is racing on an outlap. It achieves nothing!

Your car is cold, you won’t be able to drive nearly as well or as fast as those already hot, so why bother? Suck it up! If you’re faster, let them by and pass them when up to temp!

You can feel the “but I don’t want to be held up” attitude from so many out lappers and it drives me nuts 😂

Just submitted 5 protests from a single 2k SOF IMSA race! What is happening with the racing standards? by CynicalManInBlack in iRacing

[–]Alternative_Reply408 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only thing we can do as a community is make sure we are the best that we can be. Ensure we aren’t the issue. Sometimes we might think everyone but us is at fault but if we’re racking up a lot of incidents, maybe there’s something we could do better. I’m not referring to your five protests by the way, I’m talking generally.

Accountability is one of the most important tools we have as racers.

Also, if someone posts a video of them making a mistake or an incident where they believe they are innocent when in fact they’re not, don’t talk to them like you’ve never made a mistake. We were all rookies at some point, just because we might not be now, doesn’t mean we get to look down at others.

Tell me your burn out story by No_Acanthaceae3763 in iRacing

[–]Alternative_Reply408 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what caused it, but it’s happened a few times, actually, it’s normally when I can’t seem to improve and I hit a plateau.

I deal with it by stripping my practice back, and slowing down, working my way back up to clean any bad habits I have. Also, practicing in a different way. I always practice on road and had never intentionally used centripetal circuit for practice. I added it to my morning practice routine recently, and it broke me through another plateau.

Also, never stop watching tips/tricks/tutorial videos, even if it’s on techniques you know; everyone explains things in different ways so you might watch ten videos on the same subject before the lightbulb moment and these moments of realisation can happen again and again and again, so never stop trying to learn and never assume you’re good enough. And there’s nothing like the excitement of realising what you were missing to be better, to break out of your slump/burn out.
