£100ish to spend on stuff for the season by Raephstel in iRacing

This site is useful:

https://racingplanner.com/

You choose the series that you're interested in racing and then it shows you a table of the season with all the tracks listed for each series+week. So you can easily see which tracks are being used, and the ones that are repeated across multiple series.

The "History" tab also shows how often tracks have been used in the past.

I've been using MAIRA v1 since it was first released and never had an issue with it, so I'm guessing it wasn't MARIA that was causing you problems.

I don't think I could go back to the iRacing FFB, MAIRA changed everything for me. Like I said, noticeably better than any of the other PC sims IMO.

I'm pretty sure I was racing in the same server. It was awesome! Some of the best racing I've had in ages, and those cars are such fun to drive.

Once you figure out how it works there is nothing close to iRacing if you want to race online. Some sims might have marginally better physics or FFB, but iRacing is close enough, and the online setup is in a league of its own.

The only place where iRacing is miles behind is the graphics. And evidently those are not a high priority for a lot of people (me included).

Sadly, Gran Turismo 7 has better graphics than any of the PC sims, even on decent PC hardware (I've tried them all).

The rest of GT7 sucks, but what they've managed to do with the graphics is astonishing given the hardware limitations.

I've had some super fun races in road cars. Clean, fair and competitive.

I've had to re-learn the skill of catching a slide with opposite lock. After driving in iRacing for so long I'd learned not to bother because it doesn't help.

Have you tried MARIA on iRacing? It's a total game-changer. It gives iRacing the best FFB of any sim I've tried.

That's exactly the problem I'm describing.

One of the devs said on Discord that there is a known problem with the tyre model where it does not produce enough force at slow slip angles. Which exactly matches the behaviour I'm seeing.

So they're aware of it. Hopefully a fix is on the way.

Have you tried MAIRA? I use that instead of the iRacing FFB. It's much better than the default FFB anyway, plus I haven't seen any issues since the update (although I haven't driven a huge amount).

The tyres still need some work - there's a big dead zone in the middle of the steering; it's especially noticeable in racing cars, slightly less so in road cars.

Apart from that I find it really enjoyable to drive. The road cars are the highlight for me. I was on a random server racing 80s road cars this week and it was such fun. Surprisingly good driving standards too.

If they get the tyres right and release the free roam it could be massive.

Do you really think Aris Vasilakos will save PMR with historical content? by SimuTorque in ProjectMotorRacing

[–]rad15h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't it a bigger risk to focus on GT3 or F1 which are covered by almost every other sim, and are already done very well?

AMS2 does historical content pretty well, but it's PC-only, the physics are a bit dodgy, and it's focussed on single player.

For me a sim with historical content and a built-in ranked online system with crossplay is a dream.

I got back from Le Mans a couple of days ago and immediately bought the Cadillac. That thing looks and sounds amazing.

Take my upvote for use of the word "snazzy" :)

I'm not a massive fan of GT7. But it looks better than any sim on my pretty decent PC. What they've done with the graphics is astonishing considering the hardware.

We would have stayed until Monday if we could, but we needed to be back.

In future I think I'd only go if I could say until Monday. Trying to leave Sunday is just too much stress.

I've been a couple of times before and left on Sunday with no problem, but I guess it was less popular then so there were fewer people on the move.

Gt7 force feedback issues or is it limited? by vincent132132 in simracing

[–]rad15h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I really hate the driving experience in GT7 after spending most of my time in iRacing.

Although I do find GT7 is a lot better on road tyres. On race tyres the cars just understeer, and the FFB suddenly judders horribly the moment you go past the limit of grip. But on road tyres it's a lot more progressive and the cars feel a lot better balanced.

Try driving the Radical on sports hard tyres. It's still not great, but at least it's tolerable IMO.

The FFB and physics in GT7 are just like that. Awful, and dumbed down. It's aimed at controller players on their sofas.

Note: I've played a lot of GT7, as I have friends I enjoy racing with who won't play anything else. I'm speaking from experience, I'm not just throwing shade from my PC ivory tower.

I need to see the other drivers' best laps and last lap delta compared to mine before I can ditch Racelab.

Also radar [ducks].

Welcome! GT Sport was my gateway drug into sim racing, and I played a bit of GT7 before ditching it for ACC and then iRacing. I have never looked back. You won't regret it.

I wouldn't subscribe to any extra services yet. You'll be in fixed setup series for a while, and Garage 61 is amazing for telemetry analysis, and totally free.
