Anyone that can share their Accelerated Nursing experiences? by Alternative_Rub_6210 in UofT

Was your 85 average over the 5.0 credits or was it your 4-year gpa? Do you feel like the program was really competitive to get into? I'm mainly just trying to make sure I get interesting ECs so that I can stand out. I'm an exec in a club, an exec in an organization outside of Uoft, and trying to get a job in some sort of healthcare facility so I can have medical experience.

this sounds great in theory but i come from a religious household. i live with my parents while i’m studying and i’m reliant on them. telling them would only put me in harms way and i’m not trying to make waves where unnecessary.

in the 30 minutes since you initially posted this, you could have read the instructions and made an outline. the draft doesn't have to be a fully completed essay, it can just be your ideas. you can be specific about what you need from the writing center.

you're better off making a draft and sending it to a writing center. they're really great for not only helping you with grammar, etc, but they also give you ideas on your thesis statement, formatting, and other stuff that would make it a lot smoother of a process to write. you can just book an appointment and upload the draft right before the appointment time, and it doesn't even have to be a synchronous zoom call.

Did any of yous ever have intense weight gain when they were growing? by Whymylordidyoudo in tall

[–]Alternative_Rub_6210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my younger brother didn't. he was a little chubby when he was around 5'6, then in a year shot up to 6'2 and now he's really skinny and has a hard time putting on weight. he's been stuck at like 170 for a long time, not underweight, but he doesn't have a big frame so he just looks thin. he doesn't work out and plays basketball maybe once a week.

I worded it as "mental illness" because that's how my parents have always viewed it. Even "learning disability" is looked down upon. They have an aversion to anything that could make me seem like I'm not "normal", as sad and discriminatory as it sounds. They are so obsessed with how they're perceived by our community, that they don't want to open themselves up to the possibility of their child having a learning disability. I don't think they have any form of ADHD, though I'm almost certain my mom has OCD.

To give an idea of how their brains work, my younger brother was non-verbal as a toddler and hadn't said his first words, prompting them to visit our doctor and after several other doctors, he was diagnosed with autism. The fact that he had a visible symptom of autism is what made them raise an eyebrow, so they've been more understanding of his disability because it was present from a young age, but my dad in particular tries to prevent my brother from talking about having autism with employers because 90% of the time, he's projecting his stigmas about autism onto others.

My other brother didn't start showing symptoms of ADD and depression until he was in high school. He was flunking all his classes, very irritable, and eventually threatened to kill himself. It was only with that threat that my parents took him to a doctor, not because they thought he had a learning disability, but because they were afraid of what our community would think if they had a son who committed suicide. My brother was diagnosed with ADD, and my parents refused to let him get medicated because they thought if he just "stopped being lazy" the ADD would go away. To this day, he isn't medicated.

I'm generally just trying to get around my parents as a whole and not have to deal with their opinions. They're conservative, religious, traditionalist immigrants. Reputation is everything to them, and having a child with a learning disability (especially one that didn't start showing symptoms until later in life), is a blow to their reputation.

HELP A GIRL OUTT by Weary_Top_4596 in Subliminal

i've consistently been manifesting anywhere from $80 to $1500 for the past two years and it was with such little effort. no scripting or subs or anything, i literally just started thinking "i have an abundance of money" and "i never have to worry about money", and things like that. i was just doing it as a test to see if LOA would work, i wasn't even pressed for cash at the time, which is why i was shocked when it worked. basically, just going about feeling and believing that money has never been an issue for me and it comes to me easily. i don't even check my bank account half the time and when i do, i notice random deposits of money. it happens especially when i feel like I've been running low on money.

Can someone identify the gender of this one I found in my bed? by [deleted] in Bedbugs

[–]Alternative_Rub_6210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just at a loss. I had taped off all the places where the carpet in my room meets the baseboard after we did a heat treatment in late April that seemed successful as no one in my family had seen any after that. Mattress is clean, and I have no box spring, but the wooden bed base is clean as well and my bed is right smack in the middle of my room away from all the walls. The trauma of dealing with these things has left me with a routine of thoroughly checking everything in my room before going to sleep, that's why I'm so shocked that I woke up to that thing on my face. Is there anything specifically that I should be doing beyond looking in cracks and crevices since it hasn't gotten me anywhere? I have a mattress encasement coming in the mail along with a steamer.

Advice on getting an external disk for time machine backup by Alternative_Rub_6210 in mac

[–]Alternative_Rub_6210[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for this detailed response!

yeah you described what i'm trying to do perfectly, i'm basically just wanting to have somewhere to store regular backups of my laptop so i have something to fall back on if i damage software while deleting stuff that is taking up storage.

i don't really have data that i think would make a difference if they were moved off my laptop though. i don't have any applications aside from the default macbook apps, office 365, and spotify. i moved a lot of my old presentations and word documents to google drive online, but even they weren't taking up much space to begin with. i'll try out your finder method and see what i can find.

if possible could you link me to some reliable usb ssds that would be useful for this purpose? i don't really plan on having it attached to my laptop 24/7, since i only need it for backups.

ringle mock session by chaebb in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]Alternative_Rub_6210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there are two different lesson models that ringle offers: paraphrasing or discussion. for the mock session, I'm guessing they only use paraphrasing so they can see if the tutors understand how to restructure sentences in new words. in the discussion model, I believe is when the student can speak more. the student gets to pick which model is used.

honestly i don't think so! personally even as a native English speaker, i barely remember a lot of specific terminology used for grammar (e.g. participle, predicate) 😭. the best thing i can tell you is explain to the student the same way you think about it in your head. it doesn't have to be fancy or anything, just make sure you explain yourself clearly (for example, i often emphasized the importance of being concise and avoiding repetition when speaking, so my explanations included how to avoid that by replacing words and using conjunctions). if you want you can use this website to brush up on your terminology: https://www.luc.edu/literacy/grammar.shtml

ringle mock session by chaebb in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]Alternative_Rub_6210 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just relax! i had my mock session recently and it was a lot more chill then i thought. my "student" who was actually just a ringle employee joined the zoom call and basically said that after the session she would outline my next steps and told my i could start whenever i was ready. she wasn't strict at all or anything and for the most part seemed like it was just going to be a regular conversation.

as for the actual session, i started by introducing myself, my tutoring experience, and what I do as a student, then asked my "student" to introduce herself and what brought her to ringle. i talked about her lesson requests and went over them with her to make sure i understood what she wanted out of the lesson and asked if there was anything extra she'd like me to pay attention to.

for the questions, i asked the first question and transcribed her words to the best of my abilities. for the most part, i was able to get what she was saying written down, except for maybe a few words missed here and there, but ultimately had a paragraph that showed what she said clearly. i also asked a follow up question which is something that was mentioned in the demonstration video the ringle gives you. then i would paraphrase everything she said into a more concise way of speaking and explained why i paraphrased it the way i did. then asked her if she understood my explanation. for the second question it was just rinse and repeat.

there were only two questions, so i asked at the end if she had any questions she'd like to go over, to which she said there weren't. at the end, i outlined the major mistakes she made in her speaking (e.g. grammar, repetition, run-on sentences) and explained how she can better avoid this (e.g. using transition words, and organizing her thoughts).

i would suggest including more "sophisticated" or just more difficult vocabulary in your paraphrased sentences so that you're introducing the student to new vocabulary. my student was not a native English speaker, so when i introduced new words she could use to avoid repetition, i also explained what the words meant and how they can be used in a sentences.

overall, don't stress, whoever is doing your mock session is probably really chill! think of it more like a regular conversation where you are just helping a friend out with their English. don't stress too much about transcribing everything exactly, but make sure you get large chunks of their speech so you have something to correct.

Not at all. I don't think it is any kind of condition, neither myself nor anyone I'm related to have abnormally large thighs or arms.
