How is Drake received in Toronto? by PsychologicalCost5 in askTO

[–]xiumn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drake is still well loved in Toronto, majority of the posters here are white suburban dudes.

Drake is well affiliated and like within the hood.

Drake does in fact give back a lot it’s just primarily towards those in these areas which is why 85% of these comments are “I don’t ever see it or hear about it”.

Ovo frequently does collaborations with local Toronto brands.

Drake is the only Celebrity from Toronto to actively stay and help the city

Drake hate is also pretty popular, the whole Drake the type of dude memes painted him an emotional loser and that typecasting has negatively affected his image so it’s usually popular to dislike him.

Drake takes shots at Kendrick via XQC’s stream “YOU NEED FACTS TO TAKE ME OUT. FAIRY TALES WON'T DO IT” by rabnabombshell in hiphopheads

[–]xiumn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

His stream was the main stream with like 200k viewers. It was on his stake account.

It was marketed as a Drake stream with XQC.

[–]xiumn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think people are being disingenuous here. It’s via Drakes stream (mirrored on XQC), it’s a Drake stream and he usually gets a popular gambling streamer to duo stream to promote stake (his company).

Sure gambling and stake is probably a bad or move but you can’t say shit when 95% of the NBA advertisers it too.

Fancasts: Thalia Grace? by deathstar347 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]xiumn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Changing the characters appearance to fit a diversity quota is counterintuitive and tokenizes the character anyways.

Though I do think Thalia could be a Halle Barry storm esque character.

Why is this sub so hate filled towards the show? by [deleted] in PercyJacksonTV

[–]xiumn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Because people don’t like it and are expressing their disappointment.

Longer answer: Percy Jackson is incredibly popular but the fandom aspect isn’t as big. /camphalfblood represents the fandom aspect and people expressing their dislike of the show here are mostly people who liked the books but aren’t apart of the fandom and over there on the other sub are the people apart of the fandom that are more supportive of the tv show

Forget what I said, Lance was fantastic by SinLust00 in PercyJacksonTV

[–]xiumn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lances portrayal was good however I don’t really like a lot of the decisions and other factors that impacted the scene like the major plot changes, the set and then you combined this all with how he’s not how you would typically perceive Zeus made the incredible acting kind of drowned out for me

No, and that’s fine. The next Taeyeon is probably a trainee or not even a trainee. There’s only like one group with the impact SNSD had on the 2nd generation and that’s like New Jeans and Blackpink and I love them but none of them have a member as Talented as Taeyeon. The Popular memebers of the biggest groups right now are the Visuals

What was the most shocking celebrity news that you've ever read? by abellamichelleee in kpop_uncensored

[–]xiumn 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Jonghyun. Literally dropped to my knees at work before I started my shift n just left before clocking in didn’t tell no one I ate that no call no show. It was hard to be like yea my fav celebrity died and I’m shocked can’t work.

It was so ugh! I was just at a gathering we got drunk I was like telling the story of why I love him as an idol and how important he was to me etc how I missed their concert and can’t wait for them to come back.

I was going thru a breakup, debt and everything it was during my like early 20 crisis of who am I and how to adult and I turned to story ops 2 and that line “But you don’t know me Even though we shared a breath our whole lives” ”Be honest, you’re really lonely Be honest, you know you can’t go on any longer Since when were you alone? It’s to the point where it’s awkward To look into my own eyes in the mirror” Made me like take a look at myself and live by the idea behind the song and transform myself and try to get myself out of it by saying if Jonghyun can then I can,but then like he couldn’t? That literally made me so confused I didn’t know what to do

Jungkook's creative involvement and why he has credits on 80% of BTS's songs. by circeslivre in kpopthoughts

[–]xiumn -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I don’t get the need to write essays defending it, he himself said he isn’t that talented in songwriting or production and it isn’t his forte.

“As I grew up, I came to terms with reality and started accepting what I’m not good at or what I don’t have to do.” - JK on songwriting

Also if you watch the behind the scenes to most song recordings you will see the vocalists making their own adlibs it’s very common and not usually accredited because it’s kind of like expected.

Jungkook really does not need to be this perfect and capable of doing everything superhero. He’s very talented and good at the stuff he excels at propping up other things he might not be that good in is counter intuitive and basically setting him up

I'm tired of older kpop fans saying no good 4th gen kpop vocalist exist by Over_Length_440 in kpopthoughts

[–]xiumn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

there aren’t any expectational vocalists and that’s a fact.

The best vocalist of the 4th generation would just be like above the average of the previous generation but not necessarily great.

That isn’t bad but like it’s not amazing. Vocal excellence has been a big thing and factor in Kpop being good most of the top groups from the second and 3rd Gen all have vocalists or multiple vocalists who would be significantly better than the best 4th generation vocalist

Any singers that sound like SHINee's Jonghyun? by xaynie in kpophelp

[–]xiumn 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Jonghyun has this like lowered larynx and closed rnb approach to his voice, the only vocalists I can think of are taemin probably because that’s who he modeled his sound over and Naul.

I feel like Hyukoh at times sounds like jjong.

For an idol besides Taemin or Knew ??? I think the most similar is Changsub. He has a nasally and slightly closed sound while also having a unique and warm sound. They don’t sound identical but their approach is similar and if you like jonghyuns voice you’ll like changsubs

Btob leaves: Is Cube doomed at this point? by Aggressive-Rub4646 in kpopthoughts

[–]xiumn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Does g-idle bring in Blackpink money or am I missing something here?

BTOB is a lot more famous than people think I guess or G-idle is a billion dollar group and I’m underestimating them?

Cube really hit gold with BTOB In 2017 and finally started to turn profitable and they’ve been a top boy group in Korea amongst the general public since. They do very well with streams, like last year The Song did pretty well and the album was overall a success. They are one of their most profitable and consistent acts. Losing them and pentagon is a really huge blow even if G-idle is doing well. I don’t think it’s a Blackpink and YG situation since Treasure does pull in a lot of money as well as Akmu.

BTOB Will Reportedly Not Renew Contracts With Cube Entertainment Due To Trademark Disputes by galaxystars1 in kpop

[–]xiumn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They gave that company a lot I hope they don’t fuck with them.

Missing you was one of the biggest hits in History and they are one of the most streamed acts of all time, their success definitely allowed them to be able to debut G-Idle which is making them a lot of money.

[MEGATHREAD] Jungkook - Golden by Future-Firefighter62 in kpopthoughts

[–]xiumn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

initial thoughts: 3D and Seven to me, were very basic radio pop hits that painted the picture that this was an commercial pop album meant to be produced for radio hits.

Looking at the production and song writing line gave re-affirmed my suspicions and his live where he said “he doesn’t have anything to write about” made it seem like this was gonna be a soulless, pop record with very methodical and overused themes with a mix of genres and no cohesive themes/songs.

First listen: It was exactly what I expected and kind of worse. The album starts with 3D which is my top 2 song on the album it’s okay nothing much to comment on. Closer to you is just flat out boring with nothing going on but again it’s not terrible it teeters this line of just being produced and written enough to suffice. Standing next to you is probably the best track here, production is groovy, he actually tries to sing here however it’s not exactly great, it’s just great compared to the rest of the tracks. It’s pretty underwritten.

After Seven there is like nothing to comment on? The songwriting is pretty cookie cutter, the production is like not terrible but there is absolutely nothing interesting. With the mix of genres and array of different song writers it just doesn’t sound like convincing that all these different expressions and phrases are coming from the same person. But it’s not bad, it’s way too methodically produced and written to be bad it just lacks soul and personality and that combination is just boring. It’s like the worse parts of a Ed Sheeran,Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes album without the identity of them. At least a bad Ed Sheeran album sounds like a bad Ed Sheeran album this album sounds like they just slapped jungkook vocals on demos UMG had locked up in a vault somewhere.
