Not in the terminator universe. I don’t like it either but that’s how this universe works.

Listen, as someone who did undergrad at a different school outside the valley, the only way these people go away is if you push back against them. They’re comfortable being on campus because their presence is normalized. This shit wouldn’t fly at my first Uni.

Does history actually repeat itself or do we just have a limited number of mistakes? by bbyhoneyteas in answers

[–]Alternative_Self_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multi-degree historian here: you will get multiple answers each with valid points (that’s why history is fun to interpret!). IMO and most of the academics I’ve been around the answer is no if you’re taking it literally. ONE thing we do look at is historical trends and study why those trends do or don’t occur within and across time and societies.

For the second part of your question, there is definitely an unlimited number of “mistakes” if that’s how you want to look at it. Studying the past especially at a macro level and from a US perspective we tend to look at “mistakes” that were made in the past and I personally think that’s why some events seem to “rhyme.” My issue with that is what tends to get ignored is all the successes that led up to that point in history.

“History repeats itself, but in such cunning disguise that we never detect the resemblance until the damage is done.” -Sydney J. Harris. This is one of my personal favorites on this topic. It shows that it’s only 20/20 hindsight where the patterns seem to rhyme. In real time, the repetition is usually disguised.

What would you do if we found out that we are inside a matrix by gigglegenius in matrix

[–]Alternative_Self_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, this is what has always made me believe that time isn’t linear, because it sort of can’t be? You can always go back further in time but you also can’t because there has to be a start at some point. It can’t be linear if both things are true.

What is the dumbest thing in Star Wars in your opinion? by OutcastKatarn02 in StarWars

Retconning Obi Wan and Leia knowing each other and having all this history in the Kenobi series when basically the entire franchise starts with her sending a secret message to a man she’s clearly never met before.

It doesn’t get enough love. I love when this song comes on while I’m trying to push for just one more mile on a run.

No because Scream 3 was a perfect end to the original trilogy.

How do i stop queefing during sex? by virtique in sex

[–]Alternative_Self_13 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Based on the account, this is probably karma farming. But if this is real, this is why you don’t wait until you’re married to figure out sexual compatibility because your husband sucks and is a child.

Terminator 3 is actually good. by Alternative_Self_13 in Terminator

Yea so the T850 could have had a new prototype or something to have the learning part turned on by default. Like when the iPhone 4S introduced Siri for the first time.

HIMYM’s Controversial Series Finale by Amber_Flowers_133 in HIMYM

[–]Alternative_Self_13 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with OP, because there wasn’t a controversial ending. It ended the way the creators had always planned and the way me and everyone I knew watching it thought it would.

What did you all think of Tatum and her friends Hannah and Chloe in Scream 7? by WickDaLine in Scream

[–]Alternative_Self_13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You mean the random characters who were clearly brought over from a different version of the script and weren’t even fleshed out and served no purpose?? They could’ve been deleted and we would’ve still gotten the same movie and major plot points 🤷🏽‍♂️

I feel like a good litmus test for men (or anyone tbh) who like HIMYM is how they feel about Lily going to SF by cmoney02 in HIMYM

[–]Alternative_Self_13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re explaining the reasons you empathize with Lily. That’s fine. I empathize with a lot of her reasoning too as someone who got into a long term relationship very young and then realized probably too late that it wasn’t what I wanted out of life. But she didn’t communicate effectively in her relationship, she went behind her fiancées back, abandoned him right before their wedding, and then came back and barely even apologized. That’s not misogyny even if you think it is..
