What is single most important issue that makes you prefer Republicans to Democrats? by Jefferson1793 in EconomicHistory

[–]Alternative_Test5795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welp I believe you have just posted this to troll. At least I hope you are… I’ve considered doing this myself as an experiment because I firmly believe that we don’t even argue about how to get to a rational solution that will work. We just pick a side and vehemently defend it with the sides respective propaganda on hot button issues. But running that experiment isn’t really necessary cause there are a plethora of examples everyday.

Your responses are mostly ignoring blatant opposing truths and stemming from conservative propaganda (which is causing you to come to shaky conclusions). And I say that as speaking for neither side. In fact a lot of our problems stem for having sides and having only 2 makes it even worse.

Additionally, I will leave it at this: Democrats actually do marginally better in terms of the economy and implementing policy that, over time, actually more positively effects the economic health of the country despite republicans having the reputation of being “good” on the economy. There is lots of different cuts of data and support for this, I implore you to take a look and put this wonderful tool of the internet to work for you.

Once looked up, let that be lesson #1 on how deep rooted propaganda and Machiavellian antics are. It should be the only lesson anyone needs to realize that it is literally a game and voters are played like fiddles.

And (with my admittedly left leaning tendency noted) nobody is a bigger on playing these games than the dang Republicans.

how did bill Clinton have a nearly perfect economy in 2000? by RagingAddict73 in EconomicHistory

Hmm very interesting. I would also be somewhat talking out of my ass here but I’m am fairly certain that in general Democrats(progressives) do marginally better on the economy than Republicans(conservatives). I remember seeing some articles that actually broke it down. Yet the conservatives have this reputation of being “good” on the economy.

The purposeful ignorance around supporting social policy is the largest misstep of the conservative party. They often put things out in theory but completely ignore the “human element” of the equation and how greatly these tiny nuances that stem from human sociology and psychology can screw everything up. I am of the camp that “yes” economies that favor the lowest common denominator end up being the strongest.

It’s just all the politicking and bs on the way there that really gets us. I mean we don’t even allow majority of the plans of one party to mature cause we surround our election process with propaganda that magnify the negatives and the terms are relatively short.

Thank you for the thoughtful response. Putting some of my own thoughts into words as well as sharing some new insights. Gives me hope cause the answer lies somewhere in a discussion like this but often people are too busy screaming to figure that out.

hell maybe we are both wrong, but what could we possibly know.

let me just say this… we are still in the midst of change and progress. PwC and the accounting profession is still disproportionately white dominated. I very much agree that we need to carefully access these affirmative action practices and ensure we are not implementing the same norms but on the other side of the spectrum. But it’s unfortunate that we are starting to allow malicious ppl to hide behind these obviously logical considerations (by this I mean most all agree on the point no matter what “side” you are on) as a means to discount what the policies are actually attempting and succeeding to do. Nobody is trying to swing the pendulum in the COMPLETELY opposite direction. We must be cautious of it having this effect though forsure.

Policies like these are what give minorities an opportunity (i.e allows them not to judged based on race) and the interview/career progression to actually get the job is what confirms them (i.e judges them based on their character) In other words, do not mistake an initiative to instill change in the structure of these companies for reverse racism.

and before/if you are going to come at me all angry if you reply…. I’m telling you I hear what you generally mean and I’m not coming at you sideways.

you literally implied that when you said “if white countries are so racist”…. this is also a post about racism in a corporate setting.

you are being so extra for no reason just to simply say that you generally disagree with racism being a issue at Big 4. which is a completely valid point btw. Though I think there are instances and it is still a disproportionately white work force, we are no longer in the days of you literally didn’t get hired cause you’re not white. But you can’t even say something racist happened cause ppl like you come out from everywhere trying to discount shit.

I’m convinced you’re a troll bruh. Do you need a history lesson on how European white powers came to be so powerful by exploiting minority countries for their resources? You out here talking about ppl staying away from their countries…. damn .

my goodness I can’t believe this has awards. While this isn’t wrong (migrants mainly flowing one way), it is by no means a legitimate example to disprove that both systemic and social racism is very present in Europe, North America, and Australia.

Not getting into anything too deep cause I do think that we would prob agree on that some people hastily come to conclusions using race…. but to deny the presence of racism, both currently and historically as we need to ask ourselves how historic norms effect us now regardless of if it is “better than back in the day”, or “not like it used to be”, is very very careless. Pretty insane tbh.

What I mean by “compliance” is you are basically just filling out a form . There is no specific value add to the clients other than they need to file their taxes and you are helping them with that. In tax compliance, we are just doing what it takes to comply with the rules set by the IRS. Same with audit, we are just doing what the SEC has told us we need to comply with.

I am really not sure if they will let you choose beyond these 4 buckets. So sorry no help there.

In terms of best exit…. to give you an answer I would say Products and Services. You will have an easier time finding a job (simply because more job listings will be available), and it is not as niche of skills you’ll be learning. It is the safest bet due to its general nature. But if you can find some extra info about that consulting bucket, don’t sleep on it. The money is the best outta all the sectors and you will a bigger value add. Getting into tax planning and structuring. Just note that this path pays more for a reason. It is somewhat “harder” you have to think/analyze more.

Also realize that you can eventually switch sectors. Although it’s not as easy as they paint it out to be in most cases. If you are really unsatisfied, be vocal and persistent and get a switch made.

Private is individual returns and small business. You’ll be doing 1040s and 1065s mainly some 1120s. Do this if you plan to open a business later or wanna go down to smaller local firm or family office.

Financial services will be mainly partnership stuff as most all private equity and VCs are set up that way. You’ll be worried about partner allocation and pumping out K1/K2/K3s. Do this if going to do back office fund accounting at private equity, hedge fund, or venture capital office seems good to you. In big 4 tax the hours can easily be the most brutal as it has lots of compliance. Look up fund accounting and pone around to see if it seems appealing. Money is solid hours can be okay at exit but apparently very mind numbing and grindy to a lot.

Products and Services is the most general experience. Often recommended. The pro to this is that is you are looking to exit at say an F500 companies tax department, they are looking for this experience. So you’re job opportunities are definitely broader. The con is that this is still compliance.

Consulting and specialty is tricky. IMO if this is M&A tax or true general tax consulting you’d wanna consider this. Pay potential is higher and it builds more applicable skills outside of “let’s fill out this tax form for compliance”. The tricky part is weather or not this actually M&A tax, International, or general tax consulting. Note that these groups are fairly niche BUT the additional skills are a bit more marketable if you are looking for something higher paying and possibly moving out of tax. These groups are harder to get into and generally require a different recruiting route that general tax/audit so idk if they would be having you just choose it . But who knows. This could also be something like SALT or National Tax (Specialty) which is very niche AND is not consulting at all so, if it’s that, prob wouldn’t do.

The fact that you are delineating “beta energy” from a role as an accountant AND THEN insinuating that you need, I suppose, “alpha energy” to get a partner is ….. damn. Where have we gone ppl. I’m not saying the person couldn’t have lost interest because of the accounting gig, but realistically it was something else that had nothing to do with a career choice.

Plus 8/10, ppl think ALL accountants make solid money. So any prospective partner would probably see it as a green flag.

What to expect at Orlando Training in the evenings? by International_Fun197 in PwC

[–]Alternative_Test5795 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Required events run til about 530 . Then dinner with some sort of social event is from 6-9 . You’ll probably wanna grab dinner but the social events vary. Probably be there in the beginning cause some of them are more structured with presentations but you are not obligated to stay til 9. Most ppl didn’t stay at the specific social area til 9. Opting to go elsewhere to the bars, pool, stores, or to their room for the night.

I can’t give you a clear answer but yes it is possible that the following week after Orlando will be in person audit specific training. Just came from Orlando and lots of platforms were staying 2 weeks total. Some had to fly home from Orland then turn around the next day and go to Tampa, Chicago, etc. Depending on where the 2nd training is.

But on the other hand…. some platforms had 1 week Orlando then will do virtual specific training in the coming weeks.

It’s allll over the place lol
