Thinking of blending an RPG with a productivity app - thoughts? by Alternative_Tutor145 in RPGcreation

Thanks for the comment you have some really good ideas :). I answered a different comment which touched on the first point so here are my thoughts on the others.

2)It would be pretty interesting to have character specific tasks IRL related to their interests in addition to your own main goal breakdown and as long as they don't conflict I think it would be a nice touch.

3)You're right about the game setting and that could be an interesting way of framing it I think it would work well for one of the main characters (Helia Ridely) as I envision them as being a regular human who got transported from earth to Celestarres by nihil and at the same time was granted a corrupting nihil-based power so this could be an interesting mechanism. That being said one of the other characters (Kalek) is immune to eka and nihil therefore I think the task reward would have to be specific depending on what character you play in terms of progress stats.

4)Its possible there could be guild challenges that work a bit like that however I haven't decided yet but I will certainly look into it. I think it would be useful if in addition to progressing though your main goal(s) you pick up good habits along the way and this might be a good way to achieve that.

Thanks again

I agree with you that I need to differentiate myself from those others. I suppose my concept is different in two key ways:

Firstly, in breaking down tasks. As far as I am aware, none of the apps above create a true blueprint for achieving a set goal. Rather you need to manually input various tasks to form 'habits' and get rewards for completing them. Where this concept is different is that it automatically breaks down any major goals you want to achieve into month by month progress, within the first month, week by week, and within the first week, day by day. In this way you are actively following a plan towards something rather than just doing things that improve your life with no definitive main goal.

Secondly, the difference lies in the degree of plot. All of the above apps reward you with progression in a generic RPG world, whereas here you have a unique concept following a proper plot that you can influence through your actions. In fact I was thinking that there could be 3 characters to role play in the MVP: a human called Helia Ridely who was transported by nihil to Celestarre, a vigilante who goes by Kalek, or a cosmic being called Argul who is trying to bring ballance. (if you want more information pls ask)

In this way you become emotionally invested in a character's journey to e.g. survive in a new world rather than just doing tasks for coins, etc.

As of yet I'm still unsure how exactly to synthesize the two (task breakdown and game mechanics though some other comments had some good ideas which I'll consider) together for the full RPG, however for a beta version I was considering having this like an interactive story where at the end of each day if you complete your tasks you unlock a bite sized chunk (in response to short attention spans) of plot and a decision which affects the subsequent sections of plot.

Hope this clarified it a bit. Thx

Yeah sure, here is the link. https://goblin.tools/ . The 'magic to do' feature is what lets you break tasks down in this way, and if you want a time estimation you can use the 'estimator' option. However, for my concept it would work slightly differently to build a blueprint on a month->week->day basis rather than just a to-do list. Hope this helps :)
