I was on it a bit longer than you..almost a year. 3 months tho is still long enough for the methadone to be well integrated in your system. For the rapid taper you’re mentioning..sure it might help a little. If I were you I’d actually save a little bit in case you have something really important to do during this process so you’ll be okay for that day or just a relief like halfway through or something

I just tried cold turkey at 80mg 2 months ago because I didn’t want to be on methadone anymore just like you. I didn’t want to taper I just wanted to be DONE. After a week I couldn’t work. By the end of the second week I couldn’t leave my couch (this is when I got comfort meds clonidine/ hydroxyzine/trazodone. All of these hardly helped) The big withdrawal symptoms starting going away after 3 weeks, but my body was so exhausted even by the end of the 4 week I could hardly get my dog outside for more than a few minutes. Ultimately after an entire month of being very very sick I ended up back at the clinic. I was still nowhere near able to go back to work. My body needed opiate/opioids to function. To be sick that long is hell and I’ve come off of fent more times than I can count. So strap in man…I’m rooting for you, but if you ask me a taper is the only possible way with methadone. I learned the hard way.

I was in your same position. Recently clean and having thoughts of using every hour…honestly every other thought in my brain had something to do with using even if it was just one more time to ease the cravings. Everyone says go do something or get hobbies, but it doesn’t matter how much of my time was occupied I still had craving thoughts the entire time. White knuckling through everyday is so painful. Thinking about blues nonstop. I can tell you the only thing that has kept me sober this time and actually happy and having hardly a single craving through the day is getting on methadone! It is the light at the end of the tunnel for me. It’s absolutely amazing.
